December 31, 201411 yr For minor league (very good) prospect Ben Lively. Dumb move IMO How so? The one area this team seems to be in pretty good shape when projecting out 3-4 years down the road is the rotation. A handful of solid arms in the organization makes one here or there expendable.

December 31, 201411 yr Lively is a much better prospect than many realize. I think he's got the potential to be very solid, but at the end of the day, he's just that. A prospect and potential. Lots of elite prospects never pan out. This team is entering a rebuilding phase, but they have to have someone in LF this season, before they can hand it over to Winker. The one area they have wiggle room in the system is in the rotation.
December 31, 201411 yr One report I read on Lively just pretty much said he was average at everything and was projected to maybe be at MLB level by 2016. Said he pitches in low 90's with average curve and change up which both need work. Byrd will be 37 but showed some pop in his bat last year with 25 HR's and .264 BA If he can duplicate those numbers he is probably worth it. But at 37 you got to think his window is about to slam shut.
