What if no other sport in said school has such a rule?

Massey was allowed to play football. IMO, his braids, dreads, whatever you want to call them would be much more problematic as a football player than a basketball player.

I don't care what other teams in the school are allowed or not allowed to do. If the kid wanted to play, he would play.

Ashland is freaking Ashland!!!!

If their season comes down to a kid not playing because the coach has a rule about hair, facial hair, shoes,.....whatever, then their entire system is broken, from pee-wee, to grade school, to middle school.

I've read on here kids will not play because Coach Biggs runs them in practice....are you serious? Running in basketball?

Oh the inhumanity..........

They better not hire a college coach, they better hire a coach with a degree in child psychology as well as someone who is willing to completely rebuild Ashland basketball from pee-wee up.

Rules about hair length and facial hair are irrelevant.

If a kid will not play because those rules, then they truly do not want to play. It is an excuse, and there are tons of them.

But it does go straight to the heart of being a coach that players want to play for.

Its deeper than just running in practice etc. You have tried to boil something down to its most basic parts, when people who are around Ashland know there have been issues for several years.

Earlier in the thread people mentioned Adam Howard. Well Im pretty sure Howard isn't a certified teacher and I just cant imagine him working a regular ol' job in Ashland that could work around the crazy schedule of a high school basketball coach. I would love Adam to be our coach, but its a pipe dream in my opinion.

Problems easily masked by transfers.

You mean problems in the past masked by kids like Corey Gregg, Kyle Bush, and Dixson? If so, then I agree.

That's exactly what I mean. Whetsel, Thompson are others.

Yeah, your right. I had forgotten about those two...

Jimmy Chitwood didnt play becuase he wasnt sure about the coach.

Your trying to isolate a couple of words and situations and run with it, imo. It's more than running in practice, there are other issues there. It's more than the length absurd length of hair rule. It's more than the transfers for legitimate reasons.

What it is about, is that the man has not accomplished much of anything since taking the job. It's also about why he hasn't accomplished anything. Which falls back to kids don't want to play for him, coaches that were here long before him, don't want to coach along side him. If you can't keep your assistants around, its gonna be even harder to keep the kids around. The statement everyone likes to fall back on is "kids don't want to work hard anymore," hence the running comments I suppose. No matter how many times you tell yourselves that, its simply just not true, not is it the issue.

If it came down to lack of work ethic these days, every other school in the state would be struggling to field a decent team, not just Ashland. Again, that's not the issue at all, nor is the talent level in the system.

I think we are missing what's really important here....how's Dicky doing through all this? Is he ok? And has he made a public announcment calling for Buddy's head yet?
