I would put HC as number 1 and Holmes at 2.

 

Highlands is in the mix but their SOS isn't overly impressive to this point.

 

At this point, I think these 3 are the strongest in the 9th and by year end it could come down to who is playing the best.

Well said, but I would add that Holmes' SOS isn't the greatest either.

Nell always has Boone playing a tough schedule early so they're battle tested when District play and Tournament time rolls around. They leave the day after Christmas for Charleston SC. to play in a tourney that showcases some 70+ teams from around the country.

I agree. By no means am I saying hhs schedule is above avg so far. They have played two "must-play" district games that certainly don't help the sos.

 

And looking at Holmes' schedule, you would feel they have played a tougher schedule for sure. Until you peel back the onion a little. What we're supposed to be tough teams on the schedule have really struggled early. GRC a fav to win their region just fell below 500 with a 40 point loss to Lewis. And Shelby co, another fav to win their region has really struggled and I have seen them play. Fleming may be good, but I'll have to wait and see in that one.

 

The only real way to look at it is to look at the team's individually and see what they have done. In HS, it's too hard adie any ranking system to keep up. Local coaches (when they vote) are probably your best bet. And there are still several thing that get in the way there.

 

At the end of the day, Holmes, HC and hhs are all very good teams and we could split hairs all day! January is right around the corner and we should have a better idea what the regional tournament will look like once that month is over.

There are teams that have challenged themselves out of the gate knowing win or lose it will make them better and more prepared in the long run. Playing a difficult schedule and playing teams that are big, or skilled, or fast, or whatever the case may be will expose your weaknesses and tell you where you need work. And it will give you confidence when you find you can play up to the challenge. It probably won't give you an undefeated schedule but you work and you play the game and you have fun. I do understand on the other hand padding the schedule up front to give a team confidence when necessary (esp when they are young). So I think looking at early wins and loses is futile unless you are really paying attention to each and every game and how it was won or lost.

I agree. I am all for a tough schedule. Tell me where my team is at and what we need to work ont!!! HHS would typically set it up with the tough start, but I think they fell into the unfortunate state that some of the teams they typically schedule early are not as strong as the past. Sacred Heart, S. Oldham, Brossart.

 

However, they have done what was expected in the games and gotten up early and essentially put the teams away. But I agree, there is no better test than being in tight games to see how your team reacts. The fortunate part for HHS, they have already been in those situations together for a couple years now. So hopefully their opponents not being as strong this year doesn't have too much of an effect on them.

Holy Cross beat Boone Co by 31 and it wasn't even that close. I know Holmes beat Boone Co 54-50. I agree with RCC9, we can sit here and split hairs all day but the fact is that the top 3 teams are closely grouped at the top of the 9th. I know HC's SOS had to get even better by playing this past weekend and the teams they played at Lex Cath - Republic Bank Classic.

I do hope that all teams get healthy. I know right now Holy Cross is battling both sickness and nagging injuries. If they played Holmes or HHS right now it would be tough for them to win. Good luck to all teams.

In all seriousness, I do want to see all the teams at full strength when we play. I don't like winning or losing that way. Gonna be a fun couple of months!!

Holmes played the Boone game without their starting point guard who really pushes the tempo for them. As well as players being ill also. I just hope everyone is healthy when they meet so that there will be no excuses.

4th place looks good to me, way to go NCC. Most people wouldn't have them in the top 10 to start the season. Great job coach.

If Holy Cross is healthy no one will beat them come tournament time. I believe they are a notch above Highlands and Holmes.

I guess we'll find out soon! The thing about HC is they have the pressure to have to do it this year. That can add some stress when the time comes! There is no doubt they have a good team, but so does Holmes and hhs and they don't have all their marbles in one hat! (Year)

 

There is a lot more that goes into winning the region than just being healthy.
