Are you watching the same video we are? He crashed but I did not see where he went thru the defender. If that was the case it would be very clear to all of as to if it was a foul or not.

 

I'm not even sure he touched the player. Crashing hard isn't a foul unless there is contact, especially at the end of a tie game. This was a terrible call but kudos to the ref for having the basketballs to blow it in that situation.

Just close this thing. We lost . Refs sucked . Next Up : Bryan Station. That's all that we should be worried about.

I don't like it when an overzealous official makes a call that isn't his to make. On the other hand, it appears that there was contact based on the reaction of the player said to be fouled. I have a hard time thinking it was a flop as he didn't see Elkins coming.

And if it was indeed a foul, it's ludicrous to say that the ref should swallow the whistle there. If it's a foul .4 into the game, then it's a foul with .4 left in the game. The argument to let the players decide the game?? Well, if a player commits a foul, that could very well decide a game.

It was on the line that divides primary areas for the lead official (underneath) and the center ( guy who made the call ). Looked like the lead may have been blocked. The official who called it was not calling out of his area.

Ok, I was at this game sitting on the score table side near center court. From that angle there was no body contact, probably 1-2 ft between the two players. If Boyle's big fouled then it was up top on the arm, which I don't think he did. Looked like all ball. IMO no foul should have been called..all around me felt the same. After looking at the clip posted here, it looks much more like a foul. Which was the angle of the official had. So, just proves to me that angle and position can greatly influence the perceived call.

Oh and for the record, after watching several of the games in the tournament, I again feel sorry for the 13th region players and coaches. Some of the worst officiating I have ever seen...some of the most inconsistent officiating I have ever seen.

To me, in this case, the foul should have been called. The defender "wrapped up" the offensive player as to seemingly keep him from releasing a shot on time. It looked blatant, and intentional, and should have stood. I paused it on the slow motion version and the foul occurred right between 0.3-0.1 on the clock. If the officials determined that the call was made after the buzzer sounded, what can you do? But if the head ref said, "Blow it off, we don't make that call this late." I have an issue. And that's only because it was obvious and looked intentional to me. The foul mentioned in this thread looked more like it was a flop and incidental, miniscule, contact was made. In which to me you "Let 'em play" and move on to overtime. The above video is definitely a foul, the one in question in this thread is not, IMO.

 

I would agree with you here because: no official has the authority to set aside another officials decision...as a crew you can get together and talk about what you saw, but in this case, one was straighlined and the other should have not been looking in at the play..the guy who called it, saw it and got it from his angle.
