I don't see how anybody that remotely knows anything about basketball can say that is a foul. Like I said, best acting job I've seen in a long time. But it should have never come to that. Boyle should have handled them easy. Plus having that clown as a ref didn't help any.

What about the question of when the foul was called. There were zeroes on the clock when he blew the whistle but the buzzer hadn't sounded. When has time officially expired? At 0.0 or the buzzer?

Terrible call. Elkins didn't even touch that kid. What a ridiculous way to decide a game.

Very similar situation in a tournament game in NY couple years ago. But in this case, the refs convened and waived off the foul; the whistle blew after time had expired. Check out the slow-mo video.

To me, in this case, the foul should have been called. The defender "wrapped up" the offensive player as to seemingly keep him from releasing a shot on time. It looked blatant, and intentional, and should have stood. I paused it on the slow motion version and the foul occurred right between 0.3-0.1 on the clock. If the officials determined that the call was made after the buzzer sounded, what can you do? But if the head ref said, "Blow it off, we don't make that call this late." I have an issue. And that's only because it was obvious and looked intentional to me. The foul mentioned in this thread looked more like it was a flop and incidental, miniscule, contact was made. In which to me you "Let 'em play" and move on to overtime. The above video is definitely a foul, the one in question in this thread is not, IMO.

Yes. They conferred for about 2-3 minutes and then made the decision to put .1 on the clock.

 

 

While I do disagree with the foul call the referee did blow the whistle before the buzzer sounded so time would have been needed to put be put back on the clock. Any time that more time or less time has to be adjusted on the clock it is almost always a guess. Since he called the foul before the buzzer sounded it is really hard to figure out how much time should be on the clock without instant replay.

 

Going back to watch the video when the ref blew the whistle the time on the clock had expired but the buzzer hadn't sounded. That's a scoreboard issue. When is the game officially over? When the clock hits 0.0 or when the buzzer sounds? Whole new issue.

By rule you cannot change the clock unless you have "definite knowledge" of the time that should be on there. You can't just say "well the foul happened before the buzzer so we'll put 0.1 back on." In watching the video I know 2 of the 3 officials did not have definite knowledge. The official that called the foul and the official under the basket never looked up at the sound of the whistle. That leaves one ref OR the official timer. I find it hard to believe that the 3rd official watched the play, saw the foul, heard the whistle and then looked up before the buzzer went off. No big deal in this one since the foul shots would still have been shot but... you have to follow the rulebook. Maybe they did.

The buzzer was faulty the whole weekend. It never went off right 0.0 like it should. In my mind at 0.0 the buzzer should be sounding.
