Re-Gifting. Who does it? What's the protocol?

Featured Replies

It's that time of year when people want to give others something or feel obligated to give others something. What if that something is something you can't use, don't like, etc?

Of course we have all been taught that it's the thought that counts.

Is it ok to give that gift to someone else?

Depends on your definition of such. I've been known to use gift cards given to me to buy other folks' gifts.

So...if you've got some crap you want to regift...I'm down with receiving regifted crap...just sayin'....

Like the nice neighbors drop off little Christmasy things. All so very delightful. But what if you appreciate the thought but not the thing---can you rewrap and present the present to someone else?

One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure

Christmas themed gifts is ok I'd think. People that used to get a lot of business from us used to bring in stuff for everybody at the office and I'd pass those along.

Quality is the key IMO. If you are just getting rid of junk it's obvious. I have seen a lot of junk passed along. And it's very predictable who the ones who pass along junk.

I get alot of stuff at the office, Christmas Candy, Fruit baskets, ham, etc.

I usually take most of that stuff to In-Laws or wifes grandma for dinners etc.

Depends on your definition of such. I've been known to use gift cards given to me to buy other folks' gifts.

Oldest son will be getting that from me, same scenario.

I re-gift on occasion. I was given a gift card to Starbucks, which I hate. Gave it to someone who I know lives Starbucks. No harm in that. We also get bottles of wine as gifts which I often re gift, especially to those last minute parties. As someone above said, as long as it isn't junk, it is ok.

John Materise (sp) did a special on it last night on his "Don't waste your money" segment.

I will re-gift, but the key is to only re-gift outside of the primary network where you recieved the initial gift....otherwise you have to explain way too much
