Anyone want to guess which AAU program this message board poster holds a clipboard for?

 

You're missing Eli Wright, Hagen Tyler, JaQualis Matlock, Justin Miller, Jacob Conway, Timmy Taylor and Tanner Johnson. You even left off your own Drew MacDonald.

 

While I won't argue most of your choices are definitely in consideration for top 10 in the state, leaving Eli off is a slap in the face to a kid with 15+ high major offers averaging 26 PPG.

 

It's hard to put Tray Hollowell on any top 10 list considering his team is 0 for the season with multiple losses by 30+. Scoring 35 a game is great but the second half of most games have been against the opposing JV teams so far.

 

If you consider team success, you're leaving a lot good kids out of the discussion.

 

If your evaluation is purely on talent, you at least have to have Eli, JaQualis and Hagen on your list.

Also, I think Timmy Taylor from Lincoln County has done great this season. I think he's thrown into the mix. Most of Trinity's roster is also in that mix.

Forgot about JaQualis Matlock. He's also in the top.

Carson Williams is another name I left off who I'd put in my top tier.

 

Definitely should have taken more time to proof my list and/or not made it on the fly because there are too many talented kids to remember all at once.

Darius Williams isn't getting tons of love now, but I'll be shocked if he's not one of the top names on these kinds of lists at this point next year.

Also forgot about Drew McDonald who is a stud. I agree with JokersWild. It's hard to think of with so many talented players.

I think it goes without saying that many talented kids will be left off by simply asking for the states top 10 based on performance..... :laugh: Comes down to simple math. Since you seem so knowledgable of Hollowell and his team, I am sure you also know that they are probably by far the youngest team in the State.... UHA starts 2 Sophomores and their bench is made up of all 8th graders. But since you OBVIOUSLY know EVERYTHING, I am sure you knew that.... Regarding your comments about Eli... You don't have to tell me how talented he is. I have been singing his praises for the past 3 years. Prior to most of you all even knowing who he is. If the list had gone to 11, he would have been on it. Eli and Ben are solely responsible for his 15+ offers and they are well deserved because his upside is ridiculously high.

 

Now instead of simply picking apart my list, do something productive and make your own... (Which I am sure will include several of your HD kids on it):sssh::banana::wave:

I'm confused when I have been doing all this squirming and weasling you speak of. You've obviously seen me since you witnessed 2 of our wins in person this year. I'm too big to squirm or wiggle anywhere. I don't feel a need to hide who I am.

 

Your point about Eli makes no sense. If you're mad that he doesn't play for the Travelers, that's fine but to say he's ridiculously talented and then say he's not top 10 in the state because he doesn't play for your organization, then that's just being petty.

I think Jeremiah Tisdale would have been on the list if he hadn't torn his ACL.

 

Any list could easily go 15+ because Kentucky has a sudden resurgence in talent and is deeper than the state has been in 10+ years.

Imo there's no way you can put Braxton Beverly and Cole VonHandorf on this list ahead of Peyton Broughton of North Laurel and Blake Smith of Clay County. Can't much argue the rest of the names.

I'll always gladly talk basketball with anyone. If you come near Lexington anytime soon let me know. I should be at Lexington Catholic most of their tournament.

 

Again, the good thing about this topic is that there are so many talented kids in KY now that we can have legitimate discussion about a top 10 list in Kentucky and leave off lots of kids with multiple D1 offers.

I agree...

Sophomore Cole VonHandorf of the Defending State Champs Covington Catholic out of the 9th Region is averaging 19.8 points a game after 6 games.

 

Field Goal Average is 67.24 39/58

Free Throw Average is 89.65 26/29

 

With defending state champs CovCath being Top 10 this season with a few key players returning from last year's team, along with exceptional talent finally getting their feet wet, the Colonels are no one trick pony. They have a few others quite capable of double figures on any given night.

 

With all this in mind, I just feel that this makes CVH's numbers even that much more impressive, and all the while he's just a Sophomore.

 

Not only is he capable of earning these type of numbers, he's just downright smart with a basketball I.Q. rarely seen by someone of his age.

 

Some players might be more athletic or get their numbers either through more natural ability, or the simple fact they're the only ones on their team that have what it takes, but Cole runs with a multi-talented team and still produces incredible results on a regular basis.

 

I'm already casting my vote for him as Mr. Basketball in 2017.
