December 18, 201411 yr Lots of high schools are running them now. Still kind of new in Kentucky though. True
December 18, 201411 yr They're an interesting wrinkle over the past 6 years or so. Not the end all, but necessary if you're going to play read option football now. Holgorson and Malzahn have really made them popular. Rich Rod may have been the first to do it in college though. Could have been Rich Rod, he was the first I remember doing the pass/ draw combos.
December 18, 201411 yr Author Will we start seeing a lot more down the field passes instead of screen passes that goes for negative yardage?
December 18, 201411 yr Will we start seeing a lot more down the field passes instead of screen passes that goes for negative yardage? Depends on the quarterback.
December 18, 201411 yr They love to have run/pass combos built into a lot of plays...the qb reads one defender' date=' usually a lb that by numbers is responsible for a wr/rb, if that defender takes the route away that means the qb will run to the place he vacated, all is really the quick game stuff and they mix it up how they block it and who they read....fun stuff! I think the WV offense is one of the best marriages of air raid, zone read, run game, screen game, and vertical passing in the country.[/quote'] WOW! This sounds really good to me.
December 18, 201411 yr Could have been Rich Rod, he was the first I remember doing the pass/ draw combos. First thing I saw RR do was the zone read with the bubble screen back side as the third part of his option game. Like someone said earlier you read the flat defender to decide to keep or throw the bubble. Stick-draw is a nice combo but never seams to me that it is really worth all the hoopla that people talk about it.

The first person I remember doing or talking about the zone read bubble stuff was Emendorfer from UW- Platteville. But honestly after awhile I don't know where I first saw something or if I thought of it and they tapped into my brain somehow  I like stick draw when blocked like a traditional qb draw with the rb leading on a lb, as opposed to the qb running naked thru the vacated hole.

That may be where it started after all. Any way, any hire should be exciting. Any of the guys they were looking at seem to play a more fun and interesting variety of the Air Raid than Brown did. I hope it works out.

I think I should make some t-shirts
December 18, 201411 yr Good hire. Def for the money. W. Va is a much better football school then Ky is. Possibly. Unless you like money.
December 18, 201411 yr It was Holgorsen's offense at WVU. Dawson was in the position that the Chicago Bears OC was in, i.e. Trestman called the offense.
