December 13, 201411 yr Police: Texas open carry activist killed husband, stepdaughter - San Antonio Express-News
December 13, 201411 yr I believe this lady was also a "cop block" "activist". They've had a bad couple of weeks...
December 13, 201411 yr They've had a bad couple of weeks... Bunch of morons. They basically either make up stories completely, or leave out a lot of facts and make the story fit their agenda.
December 13, 201411 yr Author As a general rule, and at risk of stereotyping, but as an imported Texan, I generally take a very cautious approach to any real Texan who feels the State's gun laws are far too restrictive and oppressive. If my understanding of the law is correct, not only can you buy a silencer/suppressor in Texas, but you can have it shipped to your home. I'm all for the 2nd Amendment and people having a right to carry weapons for self-protection, but some of the stuff you get down here is just un-freaking-believable.

Sounds reasonable given the impending zombie apocalypse...... you know they're attracted to loud noises like gunfire.

You need a Federal "Stamp" or License to buy silencers...not sure State Law can supersede that. In Fact it doesn't and you can only have them shipped to a Dealer with a Class 3 License. He then can only transfer it to you once an additional background check is completed by the BATF, local Law Enforcement Official signs off and you pay an $200 Tax/Fee to BATF. Entire process can take several weeks.

December 14, 201411 yr Another example of what the real problem is. Mental health. The NRA would still make sure suae had a gun in her hand if she wanted one. It is just too bad that her hatband and step daughter were not armed. In Texas, you have to arm , because every nut out there sure as hell has!
December 14, 201411 yr Right, there's a process, but you can buy a silencer and have it shipped to your door in Texas. No you can't...that's illegal. The state laws on firearms can only add restrictions to the current Federal Law, they can't remove them. It has to go to a Class 3 Dealer and you have pick it up from them, just like a gun. Your dealer will contact you: Your dealer will contact you when your paperwork is cleared and only then can you go pick up your silencer. You will be required to fill out an ATF Form 4473 (the usual form when you buy a gun over the counter) when you pick up your silencer. 4473 MUST by LAW be filled out in PERSON!!! It just no where as easy or even anything at all like you suggested. In fact what you said is 100% Incorrect.
December 14, 201411 yr Another example of what the real problem is. Mental health. I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that she was mentally ill anymore than anyone else going through the emotional stress of a relationship breakup or divorce. It says that after she killed her husband a friend recommended that she go to a mental hospital. It doesn't say the she had a history of mental illness. It wouldn't be surprising if after pulling the trigger she now freaked and feared a long prison sentence where her and her friend might've discussed that going to a mental hospital could help her during her sentencing. Why wouldn't the friend just recommend that she turn herself in? Of course I don't know the whole story, and certainly mental illness does play a factor in lots of people losing control, but this one feels more in line with taking relationship drama too far. Which is why it's a little scary that average citizens get permits when they're able to pass the filters, but how do we know how these folks react under stress? Of course they're gonna show their best side when applying, but so many folks who normally can't be considered mentally ill can crack now and again. Many of us have had our bad days that when under normal circumstances we're of sound mind. There's really no mystery that you're bound to have incidences where average Joe reaches for his gun during a heated moment when normally he'd be in control, and with no gun around he'd have to step back and breath, and get through the moment. This is not a big campaign by me to disallow people the right to bear arms, but if we don't think the average person who's normally under control can't go off, we're kidding ourselves.

You seem very familiar with Texas Law and seem to know all about the Trusts that people have used as loopholes. I don't know what I'm talking about I guess, but please, carry on. I don't know what I'm talking about I guess, but please, carry on. How to Buy a Silencer Buying A Suppressor/Silencer Buying Options for TX Residents I am very aware of the Trust and Corporate options which are available in all states not just Texas. You are correct about the mail delivery option in Texas from Texas manufacturers only, I WAS WRONG. Dealing with firearms, ATF and 4473's for 30 years (but not the last few years) I never saw an option to filling out a 4473 in person as part of the requirement is that a person is positively ID'd at the time they fill out the form. I guess the "New" electronic 4473 handles that in some way. The premise of your original post I would still say is incorrect. You wrote making it sound as if you could call 1-800-Silencers and get one over-nighted to your house. And since you spent so much time researching the process you do now realize that is not the case. It is a very long and expensive process to get a Silencer "Delivered to your door", not like ordering a Pizza as you made it seem. Looks like individuals filing on paper have over a year wait...ATF Wait Times Trust have 4 to 6 month wait and corporations have a 5 month wait and the ATF no longer accept E-Forms...so there is quite a wait on your "Home Delivered Silencer"
December 14, 201411 yr Another example of what the real problem is. Mental health. I don't see anything in the article that says she was mentally ill. The fact that she drove herself to the facility doesn't mean she is sick. It could mean she was looking for a defense.
