Seibert from HC and Goetz from the Cru.

That's been going on at schools since I was in high school.

 

Back in 1980 and 1981 when Dicky Beal for Holmes was getting a ton of notice and press, when the Bulldogs played CovCath, we would hold up newspapers in front of our faces during Holmes' Players Introductions to show that we were ignoring him, and all of his celebrity.

 

Before doing that I had never seen anything like that before, and almost think we might've started the trend to blatantly ignore the opposing players.

I know that Goetz took one shot in the 1st half, a contested lay-up in traffic, it missed, and it was when Massie was guarding him. Almost appeared at times that Goetz was content to let his mates play 4 on 4 while he stood 30' from the hoop being aggressively face-guarded. I love Goetz' game, but he was completely taken out of the game by VH's defense last night. Luckily for the Cru, Kunstek and Green (and Lyons, et al) had nice 1st halves to keep them in it.

VH is an excellent defender, it will be interesting to see how he develops in the next 3 years. He has a nice mid-range game but at his height that doesn't translate that well at a high d1 level(even tough at NKU level of competition). Also, he isn't overly quick or explosive to the basket. But he does have a high basketball I-Q which gives him an advantage over alot of players who just rely on talent. His defensive I believe is the one of the biggest reasons Cov. Cath cut down the nets last year.

Way to many fouls called , over 40 and most of those where called by one official.

Once StH. settled down got physical and had CovCath on there heels a little bit, keeping the score within 6,7 points.

The second half CovCath came out and 6 point lead became 20 midway thru the 3 qt

 

I think most of the fouls were warranted, I only disagreed with a couple, but the officials are closer to the action then you or I.

 

Bottomline, turnovers doomed the Cru, would really like to know exactly how many they had last night. I' m comfortable guessing 25.

I was listening to the second half on the way home from work last night. I thought they said St Henry had 19 and CCH ended up with 14 turnovers.

If Saint Henry only had 19 TO's it sure seemed like 30, bottom line with this game is St. Henry had no continuity on offense due to CC pressure and the pace at which they played. St. Henry should have beat the press 1st and then slowed the game down by running an offense that would make CC have to play defense for a period of time before a shot was taken. Also, St. Henry should have play ed the game inside/out running their offense thru the Kunstek kid. Too many ill advised and quick shots.
