Defensive end Jack Gangwish killed the animal on Dec. 3 in what he called "a raccoon selfie gone completely wrong." In tweets that have since been deleted, the 6-2, 260-lb. lineman wrote that the raccoon "looked so soft and friendly I couldnt help" but try to take a picture with it. Things didn't go according to plan, however, and the raccoon bit Gangwish in the calf. Claiming he was afraid of catching rabies, he destroyed the helpless animal with extreme brutality. “It was death by crescent wrench.” Gangwish eventually tested negative for rabies and also escaped any disciplanary action from the university, which is how PETA came into the picture. “No animal deserves to be bludgeoned to death, and cruelty is not acceptable under the law,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk wrote to UNL athletic director Shawn Eichorst in a letter obtained by the Lincoln Journal Star. “It's time for acts of cruelty to animals committed by players to be taken extremely seriously, and with violence in football culture now under the microscope, this is the time to address the issue.” In addition to punishing Gangwish, Newkirk wants Eichorst to make all players take empathy training sessions. “Student athletes are set up to be role models, so it's critical for the university to send its players the message that bullying and abusing anyone is unacceptable.” Eichorst has yet to respond to PETA’s demands or take any action against Gangwish.

From Fox: A black raccoon attacked a Nebraska football player. The Nebraska player felt his life was threatened and responded with appropriate force by killing the raccoon. Excellent! :lol2:
