NYPD Officer Not Indicted for Choke Hold Death of Eric Garner

Featured Replies

Fair enough. So when the man says "I can't breath" five or more times, with SEVERAL police officers on top of him, they are good to just keep choking him and/or pushing on his chest?

If he's still resisting what should they have done? How do they know he's not doing that to get away, or get to a weapon? I don't know.

Have you watched the video?

How is there not more outrage over this?

Protestors have shut down some highways in NYC.

DuPont Circle in DC was shut down by protestors.

Not recently.

An attorney, well someone who claims to be an attorney, posted this on reddit.

My issue isn't with the initial contact. It's with the actions once he was on the ground. It was excessive, and he died as a result.

The entire altercation (from start to being cuffed) was over in about 30 seconds, the "Choke Hold" was released within 15-18 seconds and in 30 seconds he was handcuffed and no one was on him or restraining him in any way.

This man, probably just like I would have, died from is ongoing health issues. Exerting himself in the struggle probably brought it on. Has soon as he is cuffed everyone is off of him this is just after he says he can't breath. EMS was called and took 7-10 minutes to respond.

38 second mark the policeman grabs him from behind

51 second mark he releases the hold with his right arm as he reaches for Mr Garners arm

55 second no longer around the neck and he is pressing Mr Garners head to the sidewalk

1:06 mark you can see that no one is laying on him and he is saying "I can't breath"

at this point the video skips ahead but no one is ever seen laying on him or crushing him to the sidewalk.

"I think most people would not consider a choke hold to be an inherently lethal move or to have such a substantial risk of causing death."

False.

I've been choked unconscious almost, I didn't die. I think the point was that in and if itself the choke hold is not considered deadly. Based on what I remember about the video it didn't look deadly to me.

Also I thought the ME said it wasn't the choke hold by itself that killed him.

Are you implying that you can't kill someone by having your arm around their neck for 17 seconds (your time frame)?

False.

He was talking after the "choke hold" was released. Choke Hold didn't kill him.

Well they didn't kill him in that length of time, he's still talking afterwards.

Not my time frame...look at the video!

He was talking after the "choke hold" was released. Choke Hold didn't kill him.

Did the choke hold lead to his death?

Autopsy said no damage to the throat. However, it could have contributed.

Did the choke hold lead to his death?

Nope

His poor health and the exertion of fighting lead to his death. In my shape it would kill me too.

That and refusing to be arrested for the 32nd time

Nope

:lol2:

So nothing the officers did lead to his death? Is that what you're going with?
