I saw somewhere that he was 67-27 at Nebraska... Am I missing something? What's the problem?

 

Finishing behind Minnesota and going to overtime to beat Iowa were the final straws I'm sure.

 

Bashed the fan base last year, and I remember him saying something like "most places would be thrilled to win nine games a year," just a few weeks ago (maybe after Minnesota loss). Somebody should have told Pelini he isn't coaching at UK.

 

With Nebraska's non-conference schedule and the lack of depth in the Big 10, nine wins isn't a very daunting task.

Nebraska fans are kidding themselves if they think a national title again is in the realm of possibilities. The over-age-55 boosters may remember the glory years under Devaney and Osborne, but the college football system has moved beyond that era.

 

Nebraska AD said Pelini's inability to win the big conference games was the No. 1 reason for his dismissal.

 

The bolded is 100 percent true. Nebraska is set up well to be in the national title hunt. But, you've got to win enough conference games to get a shot at the Big 10 title, then you've got a shot at the final four.

 

Pelini didn't give them that shot.

Find a good win among those nine.

 

I'll take 9 bad wins over 5 good wins any time.

The boosters remember national titles. That's a pretty strong voice against being content with 8 and 9 win seasons.

 

Peking also dug his own grave by having choice words for Husker fans last season.

Two things:

 

1) Everybody loves money and the Big Ten has loads and loads of it.

 

2) At that point, everyone was furious with Texas for about 30 different things. Teams were flying away from the conference so they could stop dealing with the Longhorns.

Same reason that Colo, Mizzou and A&M said adios. There was one set of rules for Texas (Longhorn Network, for instance) and another for the 11 dwarfs.

I believe there is a personal connection with the athletic director from the Wisconsin days. Plus Nebraska is still very high profile. Plus it will be easier to win at Nebraska than the SEC West.

The other thing is who wants to go to Nebraska? You get fired after winning 9 games. Too much pressure in a crappy conference for any high profile guy to take on IMO

While I doubt he would leave Arkansas.

 

He left Wisconsin because they wouldn't spend enough money to retain assistant coaches.

Update...Bo Pelini is 10-3 at Youngstown State. They are in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs this week. That guy can coach.

His ability to coach was NEVER an issue. His ability to be human was the question.
