We're talking schools and teams who go through different waves of talent, not individuals. This is not a valid comparison, imo.

Belfry has not had to play Highlands and/or CovCath in the playoffs. JC has.

Hey, everyone knows Johnson Central has owned Ashland since they've both been in the same district. That's not what any of this has been about though. This was meant to be about paying respect to a great coach in Coach Haywood, and how successful he has made that program since 2000. He's a class individual, and as an Ashland fan I'm envious of their program. And I hate that Ashland decided to back out of their contract with Belfry two years ago. If Ashland wants to take their program to the next level, and be competitive with Johnson Central they need to play teams like Belfry every year instead of scheduling weaker teams merely for a better record. I've come to learn though that some people have a hard time seeing other coaches and programs praised and recognized, and think it's a shot or meant as disrespect to someone else. It's the "My kid deserves a trophy too" attitude that is way too common in our society today.

State Championships say otherwise, but you go on believing whatever makes you feel better.

JC may be the better team, but I would choose Belfry because of their playoff success and I'm a JC grad.

JC IS the better team and proved that the past couple of years and with this years shutout of the Pirates. But overall success the past 10 years no one can argue with Belfry. I think a lot of it is contributed to the watered down 3A East. It has almost been a straight shot for them with the exception of a few years. Next year, with the addition of a few teams in the East and Lex Cath and Boyle dropping to 3A, if they continue the success then there will be no need for the discussion regardless if JC wins a title or two.

If JC is basing their entire season on beating Belfry, then yes they are "King Of the East." I'd bet money Coach Matney would trade every win over Belfry for one state title at JC.
