RH, I don't think it was you that I saw making such comments. I saw the VOR thread and many people referring to the better team losing. I also saw it by coach ( I gotta) Rash in the Cincy papers. Which alarms me even more that he would say that. As a coach, if he felt he had the better team and lost, what does that say about the coaching decisions. Sounds like even he is questioning it.

At this point, i don't think BW fans that think they were the better team are going through an intellectually honest process. "Hey, we won the line of scrimmage, but Mayfield capitalized on our mistakes." As if we didnt have something to do with their mistakes.

One mistake is the qb throwing the first interception instead of throwing it in the stands, but apparently the heavy pressure he was under had nothing to do with that, nor the good coverage we had.

BW somehow didn't recognize the formation on the 99 yard td, which was a mistake, which kinda neglects the fact that it's not like the BW defenders on the play were fooled. They weren't fooled, they just got beat. Getting beat deep isn't a mistake (in this case), it's not being fast enough.

BW didn't call the right plays on the first drive is another "mistake" mentioned. As if the it was the play called that prevented them from getting into the endzone instead of the Mayfield defense. Had BW stuck it in on that drive, zero BW fans would have said "well, I am glad we got the TD, but the playcalling was a mistake." The play calling wasn't a mistake, Mayfield just stopped it.

 

We led the game from start to finish, and Mayfield did everything it needed to win. Including overcoming some questionable calls. I promise you i am not going to dispute the fourth down quarterback facemask call from the official who was on the other side of the river. Maybe there was a facemask on that play, I can't say for sure, but what I can say is that if our kid grabbed his facemask, then he had his facemask sewn into the back of his jersey.

Guess I missed that. But, if it were obscene, I'm sure the refs would have flagged it. I have watched the film probably 4 times since the game and didn't see anything like that.

Suggestion to Mayfield fans ... don't make an issue of the incident GOAT is referring to. It was not good and I don't want it to detract from the thread, or possibly get the thread shut down because that is where it is headed if people keep talking about it. If anyone wants to talk about it, start another thread in the controversial issues forum because that is where it belongs. If you don't know what happened and want to, feel free to PM me and I will fill you in there. Let's keep this thread focused on the game.

I agree...however, as a coach I believe you have to instill the mentality into your players...and I think Rash does a good job of doing so. Saying it in public can backfire...which it did. Those players believe that no one outworks them during the off season. After the 0-2 start, they were torn down and built back up again and became a very good football team. I think Rash is a solid motivator. I think there is HUGE respect for Mayfield by the staff....the same as HUGE frustration for not getting the job done. Sometimes you go out on a "limb" that just doesnt hold your weight....and it breaks. Rash is a competitor and sometimes that hurts as much as helps...IMO
