November 30, 201411 yr If all it takes is Leake as the center piece for the trade, where do I sign up? That might very well do it. I still think the Red Sox try to put a package together including Cespedes for Hamels but if that doesn't work I could see them taking Leake. Cespedes, even with his power, doesn't get on base enough and can be dealt. The Red Sox have about 9 outfielders and need some pitching.
November 30, 201411 yr Cincinnati won't help his .298 OBP--but that kind of OBP would fit in well with the rest of the Reds. Lots of foul territory in Oakland and other things that drag down hitter's averages. Small field, far less foul territory, bigger numbers.
November 30, 201411 yr Cespedes First blush on this, but in the unlikely event the Reds did deal for Cespedes, it upgrades the offense. I'd likely give up Leake for him, but Leake isn't chicken liver on the trade market. Stays healthy, throws a lot of innings, and has plenty of quality starts. Not everyone is Cy Young. I'd certainly give up Latos for him. He's hurt. I said it last year. Said it more this year. Said it more when he came back.

He had a lower OBP with Boston and Fenway's tiny foul territory and hit homers at a much lower rate in a much smaller park. He's a .300 OBP player whether he plays in Yosemite, Cincinnati or Williamsport.

He's a .300 OBP player whether he plays in Yosemite, Cincinnati or Williamsport. I disagree. If he plays in Williamsport he's hitting off Little League pitching and the OBP rises dramatically.
November 30, 201411 yr I will say that Cespedes' offensive numbers in Cincinnati would be unreal. I agree also, just look at what washed up left fielders have done.
December 3, 201411 yr If I trade pitching I trade it for something cost controlled for at least a couple years...
December 8, 201411 yr I'd prefer Allen Craig over Cespedes. Craig has a relatively team friendly contract, too. Under team control until 2018.
