The all stars couldnt catch the passes? Now Ive heard it all! What Koolaid are you guys drinking? Could there be a slight chance the passes were just bad? I wasnt there, but I have seen Antonio throw those passes all year, he cant make a basic easy pass, he has to look away, jump up, twist, and spin it towards you or out of bounds! Get real, you arent doing Antonio any good

The talent is there, he just doesnt know how to use it, you can talk about the attractive offers all you want, but we aint ever going to see them, no d-1 school is going to take Antonio right now, he needs to go to a prep school and learn how to play, period. I wish him well, but I wish he would get someone around him to tell him the truth (and teach him how to play basketball). Lets hear from some of the other people around the state that were there, Does the Antonio fan club have it right?:confused:

I am not too much of a man to admit when I am wrong...But I would say knowing what I know, I probably wont be wrong....Owens would really have to screw up at this point not to make it Div I next year.

After watching Owens on Saturday, I have come to the conclusion that he is probably the best player that I have seen at Boyd County - talent wise. His emotions and reactions sometimes could possibly keep him out of the consideration for the overall best players, but talent wise he is the best. I was real excited to see him play against some of the state's best, and he was quite impressive. He was being guarded the whole game by one of the state's best defenders (Joshua Mack- Univ Heights), and still was able to go 11-13, while scoring at ease. Mack is probably one of the quickest players in the state and he couldnt keep Owens from the deadly crossover.

 

It really makes me wonder how in the world that Boyd County could not even make it out of the Districts?? You could put 4 kids that could barely score or dribble with Owens and still win ballgames...blows my mind.

Good Post:thumb: I'd say they were all surprised he passed the ball. I thought he was tryin to get on the and1 mix tape or something. He's an unbelievable talent there is no questioning that. Best thing be for him to goto a junior college for a year, then move on to somewhere else.

That might be stretchin it a lil bit.

 

I think Owen's would give Rondo a run for his money in many aspects of the game.

well was there any good defensive plays in the game. i thought that any all star game was just for fun. not go give 110 percent on defense and take a charge like elliott. who takes a charge in a all star game.

 

I think you've just solved the problem for the U.S. Olympic Team! That "all star" mentality is why we always lose to better "teams".

which is what I observed in the 16th this year. I see a lot of d-1 schools liking Antonio's talent level, but they aren't going to take it in its present form. Someone needs to give the kid some good advice and help him learn some things. Cheerleading is not going to help get where he wants to go.

Most kids coming into college have to adjust their games, Antonio will be no different. I mean let's face it, the kid can flat out score, and there is no denying that there isn't much that he can't do on the offensive side of the ball. But in college, he will have to learn the defensive side of the ball as well. That is what seperates Rondo's game from Antonio's. And for what it is worth, Antonio is seriously considering going JUCO for next season just to improve his game. It will help him tremendously, esp since he accomplished so much this season in his 1ST season of varsity b-ball.

Owens sounds like a player that would benefit from a year in a "prep school" program, which would assure him of four seasons of eligibility at the Division I level. Whatever he does, I hope he picks a program that helps him develop his game, not just exploit his talent to win a few games.

It is hard for me to imagine that some many posters on here have had so many negative things to say about players this year...

 

Everyone thinks they are a coach and that they know the winning need.

 

There is not a player in the State that can break another player down in any situation better than Antonio Owens. Yes he is a kid, Yes he is in his first year of Basketball and Yes he is human, he does miss once in a while.

 

Bottom line is he is a KID and should be allowed to live up to those standards. He has to mature, he has to grow and he has to get better emotionally and physically, but with all that in mind, I dont believe any of us overweight, wanna-bee, has-beens have any right to judge his ability.

I was told Joe B told him to quit shooting and PASS the ball.

The "he is a kid" excuse is getting old guys. He is about to enter college or life. he does look great in a no defense all star game but look at his numbers in big games and the results of those games.

Most are low FG % and losses.

I wish him well but not so sure he will make it.

I was there and he has a ton of talent. Great scorer and proficient passer but he doesn't seem to get others in the same game with him. I agree that there were a few great passes that were missed but there was a few bad passes that were covered up. He wasn't that much more of a standout than the rest of the kids that were there. He was above them but not that much. He needs to mature mentally before he plays at any school. I said plays not sign. Sorry to bust the bubble of anyone but I am just saying what I saw in a short basketball game. Only game I seen him play all year.

Rondo would use him like a rented mule. Some of this is unbelievable. I've seen him play 4 times this year. I just don't get it. He can play at Marshall perhaps, but in the SEC? C'mon. Congratulations to him on the award, but I tend to agree with the general concensus of prep/jc first.
