Pretty sad ;

The report did find, however, that the State Department facility where Stevens and Smith were killed was not well-protected, and that State Department security agents knew they could not defend it from a well-armed attack. Previous reports have found that requests for security improvements were not acted upon in Washington.

We lost Americans in a place that had requested to be more secure but evidently were ignored .

Sorry it took me less than 24 hours to respond . My apologies .

I can hardly count the times I've heard "stand down". Glad that wasn't the case.
Me too. I never had much issue with the handling of the actual happenings of the seizure. More could have been done on the preventive side obviously.

My only issue from the start was the conveyance of what happened to the American public. It always seemed fishy, especially when you add Hillary's sudden amnesia. If the intel was that bad about a terroristic event that happened out in the open, we have a lot bigger problems.

Are you sure it wasn't the movie that caused the terrorists to act?

Lindsey Graham is not a happy camper about the report. He picks on one thing mainly - the actions of the deputy CIA director. But this may be show since the report is so flawed.

From the original link:

"To this day," the report said, "significant intelligence gaps regarding the identities, affiliations and motivations of the attackers remain."

Really?

Then why was it big news when they arrested the master mind -Ahmed Abu Khattala in June?

U.S. captures Benghazi suspect in secret raid - The Washington Post

Lets go back to APs article from October 2012 (a little over a month after the attack) to see if the identities of the attackers are such a mystery - "to this day".

Libyan witnesses recount organized Benghazi attack

"The trucks bore the logo of Ansar al-Shariah, a powerful local group of Islamist militants who worked with the municipal government to manage security in Benghazi, the main city in eastern Libya and birthplace of the uprising last year that ousted Moammar Gadhafi after a 42-year dictatorship.

...

Within 24 hours of the attack, both the embassy in Tripoli and the CIA station chief sent word to Washington that it was a planned militant attack. Still, days later, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Susan Rice, said the attack began as a spontaneous protest over the film.

...

Ansar al-Shariah, the group whose members are suspected in the attack, is made up of militants with an al-Qaida-like ideology, but it is not clear whether it has any true ties to the terror organization. Made up mainly of veterans of last year's civil war, it is one of the many powerful, heavily armed militias that operate freely in Libya and in Benghazi, while government control remains weak. Some Benghazi officials have praised Ansar al-Shariah for helping keep order in the city, even as they note its jihadi ideology.

With its arsenal of weapons, the group is capable of carrying out such an attack on the consulate on its own and even on relatively short notice. Islamist militias in Benghazi had in previous months threatened to attack the compound."

To say in the report and at the end of AP story originally posted 'we do not know the identities should be mind boggling given the reports in 2012 by the media and the arrest in June.

No one - including the Repubs who were in the loop - and Graham was one of them - want to bring to light the arming and attempted dis-arming of an Islamic group in Libya. And they do not want to talk about transfer of weapons to Syria where some weapons were lost - only to be used to kill our own troops on the battlefield in Afghanistan. Hence, the injured CIA employees, some severely, will never appear in front of Congress to explain their operation in detail.

I think we all 'get it' - its a covert op that went bad - for those in Libya and elsewhere. Just do not insult us with a white wash report that 'debunks' things to create a smoke screen.

Bottom line is that we were under defended in a hostile environment and everyone knew it…much like we continue with our foreign "policy". It's disgusting and I have no idea why any young person would want to put themselves in a position like this.

About that report....

26 Ways the Media Botched Reporting Latest Benghazi Report

Excerpts:

"It relies heavily on witnesses who have previously given inaccurate information or testimony: then-CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper."

"The committee concluded, “the CIA ensured sufficient security for CIA facilities in Benghazi.” Yet security was insufficient to prevent terrorists from overrunning the CIA Annex, killing two of the four Americans who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2012.

...

The committee found “no evidence” of a “stand down order.” But that is at direct odds with testimony from some eyewitnesses. Three security operators stated they were given a “stand down” order in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

...

The Obama administration initially claimed the attacks were an outgrowth of protests. But the committee found “there was no protest” (page 2)."

Investigation continues - though not using the well broadcast public hearings for much of it.

Well mcpapa, the thread has been up for almost 12 hours, the silence speaks for itself. But that's ok. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.....

Hello ?? You out there ??

What difference does it make at this point?

Surely people still don't believe the government version do they. After all the back door deals, trading terrorist for traitors, allowing the Muslim brotherhood at state dept, lie about health care, and everything else.
