So before I cast my vote and give my prediction I would like to know a little about the 1st game. How did the game play out each quarter? Did either team have key players missing? Where was the 1st game played? What week was the game?

Our defense held Paintsville to 111 total yards in week 9. Will that happen again, probably not. But as said many times before me, Defense wins Championships and the game will be won in the trenches. We are better up front so I feel strongly that we win by 3+ TD's.

Also, LRCW, after the stunner in Pikeville there is NO WAY the Rams are overlooking Paintsville. Win or lose, it will not be due to overconfidence.

I was actually at the 62-8 blowout, and then the game the other night as well. The biggest difference from what I saw between the Tigers then and now was the ability to move the ball efficiently. In the first match-up it was Daniel at QB and Belcher (who played with a cast if I remember right) in the backfield, with Trimble running some sweeps as a Jet type of play. Last time they played, Paintsville's starting center was out, and if I'm not mistaken LeMaster was out as well (multi year starter but has fought the injury bug over the years). The Pikeville line didn't get a whole lot of pressure on Kash Friday night, unlike the beginning of the year, when he was running for his life the entire night. The ability to put lengthy drives together and take care of the football was part of the win, but the defensive effort was just SPECTACULAR.

 

The defense bent but did not break. Chirico had these guys placed perfectly in many situations that they found themselves in during the first game. There was an incredibly smaller amount of missed tackles by the Tigers in this one. Every time Pugh carried the ball there were 4 or 5 white jerseys swarming to him. Paintsville also took away the deep ball threat for the majority of the game. There was one play in particular where the coverage was busted deep but Charles overthrew his receiver. The lack of ability to throw the ball with confidence forced Pikeville to run the ball more, which doesn't allow their incredibly speedy skill players to be involved too much, especially Estepp. I think the Tigers forced 4 turnovers? I know also that 2 calls that were debatable fumbles were ruled otherwise (one was overturned after an initial ruling of a fumble) so it could have been worse surprisingly, assuming that they would have been able to capitalize on the forced mistakes.

 

I've watched a ton of Paintsville football over the years, and this was the single most gutsy performance by a group of our kids that I've ever seen. Completely against the odds, and embraced that underdog role and took it to, according to some, the best team in Class A to this point of the season. I just hope that lightning can strike twice for the Tigers' sake.

Raceland I am predicting will come out and play the opponent on the field with them and not look past them or make any other stupid mistakes that allow for this game to be close.

Thanks for the breakdown Pupaw. Defiantly a monumental performance by the Tigers, reminds me of the Brugh era.

I was about to mention that but since you already have I will just say .....:thumb:. Those Tiger teams fought hard, regardless of score and for a good while there in the 70's, 80's under the "Blue Legend" as he was appropriately referred to, Paintsville owned Raceland. I believe at one time it was something like 8 or 9 in a row over our Rams. Always could count on a lot of extra whirlpool time the days following Paintsville, win or lose those boys hit.

I agree here but I don't believe that this time will be 3 or 4 td's, that Pikeville win will give them a ton of confidence. Looks like the Tigers are playing their by far their best football right now.

Agreed. I know for a fact the Rams won't overlook the Tigers. And I also know they don't care who they may play next week because regardless of who they play, if they're there, they got to take care of the Tigers. I have a lot of confidence in my Rams.

If Paintsville beating Pikeville isn't enough wake up call then I don't know what one is. I am very positive that the Raceland Rams will not take this game lightly as they will be prepare like they do for any other big game.
