Murray 20 Owensboro Catholic 9

Real nice win, congrats Murray!

Tough loss for the Aces. Come back stronger next year. Congrats to Murray.

Told ya,, and someone thought OC would put 60 plus points on Murray.

I said same thing. OC's schedule was awful. In no way did it prepare them for these types of games.

Every year it seems like their is much sentiment that OC is going to "put it on" Murray.

Then they play the game and this happens--

Congrats Murray but this was a tight game, Ocath was on the Murray 4 yd line with 2 mins to go down 13-9. This wasn't a dominated game by either team and OC had a chance to win. Congrats OC on a terrific year.

Murray's 8-4 record may not be impressive to some, but, when you look closer at the losses, you realize that this is a very solid Tiger team.

Losses to Graves Co 26-17, Mayfield 21-10, Caldwell Co 31-24 and Madisonville 27-15.. All these teams are still in the playoffs in there respective classes and have a combined 41-7 record. Murray was very competitive in all these games.

IMO, they've been a Top 4-5 team in there class all year long, although they've not been ranked that high for a lot of it.. They have excellent size and athleticism in the trenches and some big backs that can run you over and a couple of smaller, quicker change of pace backs that can do some damage and there D is better than average and underrated, imo.

I got to call the game for WVJS here in Owensboro tonight and it was a game of two pretty evenly matched teams. At the end of the day the team that executed the best and played the cleanest won the game. Catholic turned it over 4 times, twice inside the redzone and that was the story of the night. I thought Murray did a good job of sticking with their gameplan and let the Aces come to them. Catholic had several dropped balls, including one in the final 3 minutes in the end zone to a wide open WR. Just seems like Catholic is cursed in these games vs Murray. Dont get me wrong, im not trying to take anything away from the Tigers. Miles is a great player and I also came away VERY impressed with Keshon Love. Love made bigtime plays all night long. I know the kids and coaches from Catholic are going to be kicking theirselves for letting another Murray playoff game slip away from them. I got to call several Aces games this year and to them i would like to say, great season.

Owensboro Catholic should go back or to scheduling Franklin Simpson,Russellville,Madisonville,Paducah Tilghman,Mayfield, etc out of district. South Spencer(IN) and the Illinois school they played don't get them ready for these type games IMO.

They tried several times with FS said NOPE, Russelville said (NOPE), they will play Mayfield in playoffs possibly next year. Madisonville schedule was booked. They scrimmage Hendo, play OHS, The only schools that said they would play OC was Highlands, but that would be stupid on OC's part IMO.

They are locked in a weak 6 team district with those 5 games they have, then the 3 city schools, with OHS being a good opponent, then South Spencer who every other year plays them well, and then another game.

Here's who Catholic picked up this year from what I'm told:

They usually play Henderson Co. 6-A in scrimmage.

NON DISTRICT

Mater Dei (Evansville) 2-A powerhouse in Indiana

North Hardin 5-A

South Spencer 2-A

City Games

Apollo- 5-A

Daviess Co.- 6-A

Owensboro High School 5-A

DISTRICT:

McLean Co

Butler Co.

Todd Co.

Hancock Co.

Morton a speedster WR didn't suit up for Catholic, unfortunate as he is a difference maker. That hurt

Madisonville played Henderson,Central Hardin,Murray,Hop-Town,Paducah Tilghman,Greenwood,& Apollo out of district. Franklin Simpson played Graves Co,Russellville,Battle Ground Academy(TN),Greenwood,& Logan Co. Russellville played Ft Campbell, South Warren,Franklin Simpson,Butler Co,Trigg Co,& Logan Co. Idk if you were saying they said thanks but no thanks out of fear the Aces or maybe their schedules were already set. Either way Owensboro Catholic needs to get another quality team with athletes on their schedule asap IMO.

I can agree the Aces need a better out of district schedule but im not sure that made the difference in this one. You simply cant turn the ball over and make unforced errors like they did at this point in the playoffs. Its easy to point to the easy schedule but the Aces were very limited in their options this year. They were required to play Hancock, Butler, Mclean, Union and Todd. The city sans Owensboro was extremely weak(mind you they are 5A and 6A in Apollo and DC). That leaves only 2 games to schedule up. South Spencer Indiana was already locked in and have had good teams in the past but were very down this year. So coach Edge basically had 1 game to fill and he went out and got Mater Dei Breeze from Illinois. If anyone saw that game you would know that Mater Dei was MUCH bigger, faster and stronger than Catholic but Catholic found a way. I have heard there are several higher class schools that refuse to schedule Catholic. The bottom line in the schedule is, the weakness of the Owensboro area schools really hurt Catholic as far as seeing teams that have elite talent. Not much can be done to fix that. I will still argue that weak schedule or not, the Aces beat themselves and likely would have beaten themselves with or without a stronger schedule.
