Newport 37 Walton-Verona 36 (OT)

Newport has the weapons to win. SK has a lot to prove and HHS will name the score. I may go to Newport Stadium

I think it will be the best of the three.

Tremendous game to watch! Both teams made some huge plays throughout this game. Congratulations to Newport. Great year for Coach Barth and the Bearcats.

Ok. Now that I've been to Waffle House, had some coffee and gotten warmed up let me offer my apologies to all trying to follow the update thread on this one. My updates were getting a little whacky there for everyone trying to follow. Dang those fingers were cold.

On the game...what a dandy.

As they say, it came down to who had the ball last. Would have loved for the Bearcats to have won the coin toss and gotten the ball second. Could have been a very different outcome. Nonetheless congrats to Newport on the win. Sorry NCC fans, I'll be rooting for Newport from here on out. Congrats to Walton on a great season.

I know what you're saying.

No need to apologize, it's all good.

Congrats to the Bearcats on a great season. Big tip of the cap to the coaching staff for getting this program to were it is already in such a short period of time. The Bearcat faithfully should be very proud. :ylsuper:

I thought the "We want New Cath" cheer by the Newport cheering section tonight at the end of regulation was rather interesting. I guess they will get their chance. Should be a good rematch between New Cath and Newport.

Congratulations to the senior class from WV. They all have contributed to building a respectable football program at WV.

What an incredible game. I actually thought and said in the prediction thread that this is gonna be the game to watch in the 2nd round of the playoffs. I also predicted whoever had the ball last would win. The apocolypse must be upon us because I never seem to call these games with complete accuracy. Congrats to both teams on having very good seasons. It is nice to see that the nky 2a district is finally more than just ncc. Not to take anything away from the breds and what they have accomplished; it is just nice to see other 2a teams in this area show how solid they really are.

Wow, incredible game. WV fought their hearts out but Newport was one point better. Congrats to Newport and good luck from this point forward.

Reflection of last night's game:

Will Latimore last night: 178 yards and 3 touchdowns, 2 additional scores for 140 yards (95 yard and 45 yard runs) that were called back on (according to film) questionable at best holding calls. No points on either of those drives and the 95 yard yard score would have the Bearcats up with 2 minutes left in the game. Quote an old coach of mine: "If ifs and buts were fruits and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." Excellent season for the Bearcats. Always a lesson in a journey. Good luck to a tough Newport team next week.

I think most people agreed that the Newport/Walton-Verona game was probably going to be one of the best games in Northern Kentucky last night if not the state and it certainly turned out that way. Two competitive teams that were pretty evenly matched. So.... I buy an Enquirer this morning to check out the local football coverage from last night and what do I find, nice articles on Ryle/Dixie, NCC/Lloyd and Highlands/Ashland. With all do respect to those teams, how does the Newport/WV game get ZERO coverage. For those folks in N. KY is there article or write up online somewhere that I'm missing?

How did Newport score the 2pts?

Two very good teams Who are both well coached. Good luck Wildcats vs the Breds.

QB keeper between left guard and tackle. I'm not sure he got touched. He is a talented player.

What was interesting that they chanted that? After the close regular season game there is no reason for them to not be excited about it. Its a great thing to see Newport and its cheering section truly believing in there team. Good for Newport, there is nothing bad about that.

I have no dog in this fight, but I went to this game because I thought it would be a good one. BUT, this was a HORRIBLY officiated game. I was a high school football official for 10 years, I know its not easy, and rarely, if ever criticize them. There were phantom pass interference and holding calls, WV recovered an obvious fumble which the refs blew dead before the runner was anywhere near down. I was really disappointed in the officiating, to say the least. Having said that, It was a fun game to watch, And congrats to both teams on great seasons!

I would agree 100%. The crew was from Louisville and they were not very good. Bad calls all the way around. Honestly, they had a difficult time even spotting the ball in the right spot at times.

# 2 for WV should have been ejected from the game. Jumped on the pile late and threw a haymaker punch that landed. Very disappointed of the conduct from some of the WV players. Lots of late hits and cheap shots from #2, #5 and #12. Not reflective of the type of coach Jeff Barth is.
