Newport 37 Walton-Verona 36 (OT)

Featured Replies

From what I'm hearing from people who were there, the WV fans were just as bad and embarrassing. Heard quite a few cheap shots took place as well.

Yes there were some embarrassing comments and actions from both sides, but we should never judge the entire program from the actions of those not involved.

Listening to one game on the internet and watching a great game between two good teams in Verona. I would have to say the Walton-Newport game was a horribly officiated game and it is a shame the referee's would in my opinion were the game changer for this match up. Four fumbles by Newport were ruled down and two of Touch downs were called back by very questionable at best holding calls. Would have liked to have seen the officiating crew let the kids play ball especially in a big game like this. Congrats to Newport on their win and Walton Verona on a great season.

The game did a bit out of hand on the field. Walton had to keep their heads. Kids were being pinched, choked, eyes gouged and grabbed in unmentionable places in tackle piles. The refs typically do see the 2nd all the time. #2 for Walton did take a swing and likely should have been tossed. Have to keep your head.

I've heard that multiple times from players who've played Newport that the choking and eye gauging has been going on all year. Fourth team to be exact. I realize this happens a bunch everywhere but seen 3of4 of the complaints via picture and one in person. Glad to see the rematch and good to see the Wildcats playing in the regional finals. Should be a good one.

After reading all this, should the Breds dress in "medieval armor"?

Newport was notorious for "extra" action or what some would call dirty play back in my day in '92. I hear people say thats how they are and have always been coached at that school. I do not believe for one minute that their coach or anynky high school coach would teach or endorse such methods. IMO teenage boys have trouble at times keeping their composure, especially if they feel they are being targeted or the recipient of dirty tactics, but that stuff does happen in the pile.

In my day the only time I EVER wore a cup was vs Bellevue. Every single play there was a low blow. I never had a provlem vs Newport

# 2 for WV should have been ejected from the game. Jumped on the pile late and threw a haymaker punch that landed. Very disappointed of the conduct from some of the WV players. Lots of late hits and cheap shots from #2, #5 and #12. Not reflective of the type of coach Jeff Barth is.
Not sure where you got #12 but I can tell you he was not involved with any late hits.
Not sure where you got #12 .

From my eyeballs. Kid was pushing late and mouthing all night!

I can attest to that as well.

Your eyes must be deceiving you or you've got the wrong number. Maybe you're talking about #21 from Newport.

NCC is the biggest culprits of these tactics in the region. It was rumored that a player from an oopposing had to come out of the game vs. NCC in the 1st quarter and didn't return because of an injury inflicted to his eye by an NCC eye gouge. It is also well known that an opposing running back yelled on the field during the NCC game for them to quit grabbing his nuts. Newport should wear the armor.

Are you serious right now? Please shed light on the player who had the eye injury because I can assure you there was a player on NCC side who had his eye gauged NOT poked who was unable to come back in the game. Football is football stop playing the victim. If there has been multiple teams whom have said the same exact thing about Newport I can prob assure you all 4 teams are NOT LYING!! there is gonna be personal fouls in all games but some of the "rumored" things that are being said about the Wildcats are not all made up to pick on them!!

A bit sad this turned into a he said she said fest. Newport won an instant classic, Walton came up a point short. Newport is historically a bit dirty, you know that going into the game. Both teams played with an edge and had personal fouls called. The biggest problem for Walton is getting over the "what ifs." What if a cross field side judge doesn't blow a clear fumble recovery dead when the play side judge moves with the recovery? What if a back judge doesn't throw a phantom hold 30 yards away from the play to take away a td and ultimately have to punt? What if a side judge doesn't throw a penalty on a textbook receiver block to take away a 95 yard go ahead td with less than 5 minutes left? Tough pills for guys in blue to swallow, but the reality is Newport played a great game and won. Good luck against NCC, should be a great matchup.
