Long TD runs by Baker didn't surprise. Ashland's defense holding Highlands to 28 points SHOCKS me more than the Pikeville -Paintsville score.

Honestly I believe Highlands is still Highlands. Baker busted a couple of huge runs and finished with around 250 yards rushing I believe. But that's why he's an SEC back. Ashland probably would have won tonights game if they had a more balanced offense. The defense stepped up in the second half, but without Bakers long runs the game wouldnt have been close. Im proud of my Tomcats and Q though, they all played their hearts out. To beat a team like Highlands you just need a more balanced attack though.

 

I think you're onto the real issue at least regarding Birds D. Two breakaway plays by a stud back. No sustained drives from what I gather.

 

CCH has no breakaway players. They'll have to repeatedly execute which is hard to do against the Birds.

So I will ask in this thread who was the last rb to run for 250 on highlands in a single game and when did that happen?

Ramsey and Messmore combined for 292 on the ground this year for Elder against Highlands. But don't know who the last running back to rush for 250 by himself would have been.

Not speculating because I witnessed this one........ HHS did not play well overall tonight. Two drives ended inside the 5yd line, another inside the 15 as the clock runs out in the half, the aforementioned 95 yd TD, a 12 yard punt, two missed FG....... Starting to get the picture? Not typical HHS performance but still doubled their opponents score so don't push the panic button yet folks!

 

Will give some props to Ashland, they played some tough D and played inspired all night......Congrats to Nick Kendall ( the other stud Jr back in Ky!)

I'm not sure what Jake longs numbers were, but if you combine his and Bakers you would probably be at or above the numbers elder put up. Both of these kids are just juniors.
