I believe it was Pawsat that made the clinching free throws at the end and he was named the player of the game. Those were his only two points.

How did Miller play?

 

At times, he was the best player on the court. He really looks to be coming into his own.

Miller was key for Mason in many ways. If he wasn't scoring, he was drawing defenders in and kicking it out for an open look. He was also very key in the first half in breaking Central's press. With him on the bench they faltered, going down 8 points due to two straight turnovers leading to points. He went back into the game with two fouls (a gutsy move that paid off) and his sure ballhandling helped them to the halftime lead.

 

I really wondered if I was seeing the best of Mason; I know I didn't see the best of Central. I was especially disappointed in Central's guards, Britt and Hudson, who really made no impact on the game and as a result Hood and Anderson (who both were on fire) couldn't get many open looks. Both teams had a lot of mistakes, but in the end Central made bigger ones and Mason capitalized. With under two minutes left Central made the mistake of turning the ball over on the offensive end, then on the rebound after the free throw. Mason made them pay. My hats off to the Royals, who I think will make it to Saturday, and after that, anything can happen. Good luck to you!

This game was the first of two humdingers for the morning session. I was rooting for our 10th Region reps all along, the photographer next to me was yelling for Warren Central so we had a little good-humored banter going on between us. Enjoyed both games this morning!

Just got back from Lex, great effort by the Royals who had to overcome Pawsat (their best defender) and Miller (their best all-around player) each getting two early fouls; then Middleton going down (and probably out for the rest of the tourney) with an injury.

 

Turner was a beast, scored 15 at half and finished with at least 12 rebounds. Great game from Miller, who was instrumental in breaking WC's press; inbounding the ball as well as handling it. Surprise game scoring-wise from Scott, who had 14; but the biggest factor may have been Tony Browning's 13 off the bench, including 3/4 from distance. I'll give Stahl credit also; he had to play way more minutes than usual today.

 

Anderson and Hood's 3-point shooting kept WC in the game; I thought the game turned on a couple of key plays, most notably fumbling a rebound after a missed MC free throw very late in the game.

 

Congrats to Warren Central; I feel sure that we didn't see their "A" game, but I give a lot of credit to the Royals for not folding under adverse circumstances, then pulling out a close one.

 

Nice to be traveling back to Rupp from Maysville tomorrow!

If i'm not mistaken this is the first time in the 5 year State Tournament span that Warren Central has lost in the first round.

 

Anyways, I listened to this game at work and without a doubt it had me on the edge of my seat the whole game. I remember 2 years ago thinking that Miller was going to be the next big hit in Kentucky high school Basketball and that thought still holds true today.

 

Good season Dragons... i'm sure the rest of the state looks foward to seeing you next year at Rupp....

Congrats Royals on a big win today over a very good team:dancingpa .WC you guys have had some run the last few years and im sure you will be back next year.Lets get ready For Apollo guys and were into to Saturday.To many people was doubting Mason as if you look they have done well when they get to Rupp.You gotta remeber WC was shooting 70% from 3 land late in the game :scared: and Mason played most of this whole game without there starting point guard and 3rd leading scorer in Middelton.So i was very impressed with this W.

Great win for the Royals!! Hard fought game by both teams. Congrats to Warren Central for an outstanding 3 years thus far, and I'm sure more to come. Won't surprise me that these two young teams cross paths again in the future.

Congrats Mason Royals:dancingpa Alot of PC fans and I were sitting together and we were pulling for our 10th regions winners....you did great guys...now go out and get the W Tomorrow.

Didn't pick Mason Co, and I was wrong....
