Franklin-Simpson forced a running clock on Hopkins Central with 11:00 min to go in the 2nd. Last year it was a bit later in the second quarter same team.

The question that needs to be asked is: why was the running clock changed from 45 to 36? I venture to say the reason for the change was to try to keep these kind of complaints from surfacing.

Well then I'm really surprised when Leslie Co (Tim Couch) came to HHS in the playoffs that they didn't blow HHS out? In fact, we blew them out. One player doesn't make that difference. That team would have been good with an avg QB. Did he help, absolutely. But the fact remains, we did have him and other over the years.

We are getting caught up in the "running clock" question. When in reality it just one measurement of the faulty solution we have. The people against the current system use "running clock" as the WOW factor. Yes, there is a potential for a running clock anytime two teams take the field. I've seen blow outs in the superbowl! The point is, when you as that many teams to a playoff system, you increase the frequency tremendously. I think we all know running clocks are not good for either team and if we know that to be fact and we know that adding that many teams to the playoffs increase the number of running clocks across the state, why do we continue to do it???

 

Saying "there can be running clocks at any level or any place" is true. But using that as an argument to say it's okay to knowing knowingly add teams to the playoffs that obviously increase bad situations is not a good excuse for leaving them the same way. Just because something has the possibility of happening at anytime, doesn't mean it's okay to increase the chances of it happening.

 

We have street lights at every corner in a big city. We still have accidents at those intersections from time to time. And man, all that product, labor and maintenance can really add up. Since we have accidents there on occasion anyway, should we just remove all the street lights and save money? We know they happen but we would never remove the lights because they are the solution to not having something bad happen more frequently. If we put in a solution to the football playoffs, we could minimize running clocks.

There were 94 playoff games last night. 68 games were decided by 3 scores or more. 6 games won by the home team were decided by 2 scores. 6 other games won by the home team were decided by 1 score. In 14 games the visiting team won.

72% of the games were blowouts.

15% of the games were upsets...or visiting team won.

13% of the other games were competitive...within two scores.

 

Perfect! So if we would quit letting all the teams in that shouldn't be there, those percentages would change dramatically! Take your formula that you just applied and apply it to the second round of last year. And tell us what you get. Because that's what most are proposing.

Where was T and Manuals games recorded? Upsets and away games? Because I wouldn't really consider those "upsets". So that would change the numbers a bit.

Also, if T's game was removed by filtering away games, then was it first categorized as a blowout?

 

Not nit picking, but some of that could change the numbers and that are their other teams that played "away" that won that weren't really upsets. Ryle for example. Was that an upset? I'm sure there are others if I looked closer. Because some of the districts are really bad, having a really bad 1 or 2 seed doesn't make that game an upset and actually leads to us having too many classes with very small districts. When 4 really bad teams get put in a district together and they have to seed them, somebody is going to get the one. When a lower seed from another district beats them, it doesn't automatically qualify as an upset.

We hear a lot of talk about the first round mismatches. Just how bad us it? I was at the Highlands vs Boyd County game and it was 36-0 with about 1:30 to go in the first quarter when the running clock began.
