October 23, 201412 yr I'm not sold on Morgan as a lock but I get why he is mentioned and seen as a lock. I think his role in Shawshank alone might have him top 4.

October 23, 201412 yr I couldn't name one movie he is in. Never seen a single one. He was great in 1963's "Lillies Of The Field". He won the Best Actor Oscar for his protrayal of a young man passing through a town, I think looking for a job, and was taken in by German nuns. They were desperately trying to find a way to build a church, and saw him as being sent by God to help them. And in the end he did just that, built them a church. It's a very heartwarming movie and Poitier was wonderful. I haven't seen it in a long time but one could probably get scenes of it on youtube. One scene that I remember was him teaching the nuns a gospel song that he learned as a youngster. They had a little trouble with their German accents but it was a good moment in the film. And though he told the head nun (I think they addressed her as Mother Superior) many times that he had not been divinely sent, she would not accept it. In the end she had her church. It's a very nice movie worth watching if you've never seen it. And Poitier walked away with an Oscar for his effort.
