Why would Boyle County stick out like a soar thumb??? 5-0 loss is pretty bad but Boyle County is a really good team. Their only bad loss was to Lex Cath 5-0. Tell me what kind of record this team was supposed to have. .750, .500, or .250? No one can predict a record because there are so many variables. BR would have made this team better and would have probably helped win a couple of those 1 goal games. You have a team of 4 seniors and a mix of Jrs, Sophs, and Freshman. I think winning 10 games with that schedule, under a new coach is pretty impressive. It's amazing to me that people have a problem with coaching and don't say it's because of rumors. I have heard numerous people on here complain about the style of play and formations that he plays. Please explain to me the success of the JV and Frosh teams??? These girls all bought into the system. I believe it just took a little longer for the Varsity girls to adapt to it. It's in no way a knock on them but learning a new formation when some of them had spent 3-4 years with Tommy are going to struggle at first. This is not a knock on Tommy either. If you were at Senior Night you could have seen the respect the girls have for him and his wife. People who have opinions about his style of coaching should have stepped up and applied for the job when it was open. Problem is, you couldn't do it and couldn't handle it. I know I couldn't have done it. Not because I don't know the game but because I would have put my foot up the rear of these parents and told the to go kick rocks. Good luck to the Birds tomorrow night. Prove to these people that this team can accomplish what they set out to do at the beginning of the season. Hope to see a good, clean, injury free game for both teams.

Seems like you joined to make your points about the great job that is being done at HHS with the girls soccer program. Do not say you have no dog in the fight when it is pretty clear that you do based upon this post. They have reached double digit wins, whoopee!!!!! With what the team had coming back from last year were they not expected to be amongst the top 2 or 3 teams in the region even before the change in coaches? 3rd toughest schedule based upon what? Is the schedule not pretty much the same that it has been over the last several years or at least since Tom Kearns was in charge? Record means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, it is simply how you are playing at the end of the year just like basketball, right coach? Looking at the KHSAA website and results it would appear that the HHS schedule was a little softer toward the end of the year, is that why they have finally had some success? Time will tell I guess, but that 5-0 beating at the hands of Boyle County sure sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

 

The ranking is based on the Maher rankings ( see other thread on this topic), a very good ranking system. Look at the teams HHS played, a lot in the top 10 and top 20. This is why HHS still ranked in the top 20. Yes the schedule a little softer at the end. Only games off top of my head where HHS was man handled was Lex Cath (played very bad, they are top rated team) and Boyle (they looked very good and top rated team). I do think Highlands,ND,Ryle, Campbell and NCC could all win the region because none of them are great this year. Not sure if Ryle is in same region?

The JV teams success has a lot to do with the age of the players. Highlands does not bring up the top fresh and sophmores as much as other schools, they like to play upper classmen over the younger girls (tommy more than brian) and this leaves HHS with older/better players than other schools at JV level. I believe HHS was the only NKY school with JR's on JV. HHS best defender was brought up from JV due to injuries, another player brought up on offense due to injuries and gets a little playing time and several other players should be playing varsity over some of current varsity players. At other schools a lot of the JV players would be on varsity. This is why JV did so well. A lot of schools JV teams have 7th, 8th, and 9th graders and little if any 10th and 11th graders. Most freshmen teams are made up of mostly 8th graders and HHS does have some good young players.

I have been to every home game (excluding the Dayton game) and a few away games this season. ND is the team to beat in the region, and the state, in MHO. But you never know in this game, stranger things have happened. Good luck to the Birds, especially the seniors! Go Birds! Beat Breds!!

kings102876 Since you are new to the HHS soccer program, I will be anxious to read your posts in the next 3-4 years. Between boys and girls, I was extremely involved in the HHS soccer program for 12 years. I thought it would be unbelievably painful to not be involved in the program this year. Not so!! I am extremely relieved not to be part of the mess that is HHS Girls Soccer. I hope the seniors have a successful post season. It is so disappointing that some very talented former players felt they were better off to leave the team. When you have a 4 year varsity player quit mid-season, there is a problem. IMO.

These games are always exciting for the kids and fun to watch these two schools go at regardless of the sport and I will go with the Ladybirds in this titanic struggle...2-1 :thumb:

Very important for the Ladybirds to get a W to not only repeat as 36th District champs, but to host the first game of the regional tourney.

Wait, Is Highlands head coach still coaching this team? If so, wow. I can't believe the Administration hasn't swiftly taken care of this cancerous situation. I get it that teams have their parents. You know, the parents that think their little boys & girls aren't getting enough playing time. Umm, that's not the case here folks.

 

The truth to all of these so called rumors & distractions will eventually come to a head and there will be people in Awe that Highlands didn't move quicker. I agree with what you are saying and the only thing that matters now is getting the W, I think the Dayton match was brought up for two reasons in this thread.

 

1. Point being made based on what happened during/after that match.

2. Because it was the first game of the Districts.

It would be nice if there was some type of Mercy Rule on BGP...
