I have a question for Highlands fans? I was looking at Highlands roster they have a QB/LB that is 6'4 260 pounds?

They are trying to get his vertical leap above 72 inches and his 40 time under 1.0 seconds. :sssh: Don't tell anyone I told you this.

 

If you've been by HHS lately, you will see a lot of construction going on at "death valley" next to the school. This is supposed to be secret...but that is where the new "genetic lab" is going...

A serious question...I know there are probably not many Holmes fans that show up on the football thread. But does anyone have any insight on why the program is do deteriorated? They have athletes in that school. Maybe not enough football players to win championships, but surely enough to be more competitive.

Then it must be a really old roster...like when he was a freshman! I know he was bigger than 260, but man he was fun to watch. When you QB and TE are the two biggest kids on the field in almost every game, you aren't going to lose much!

The problem is that no one takes you seriously when you really are being serious. Kind of like Chicken Little.

Interesting what you can find when you go trolling. Never suspected you would poke around in HUDL looking for material. Obviously a made up account, or kids have fun with a teammate.

 

The real Ben Ziegler is a junior outside linebacker that has gotten some action at the varsity level. He will be a big part in the team's success next season as the 2 starting OLB's are both seniors.

I am going to try and answer RCC9 question about Holmes football, and this is just an opinion from a graduate from the 70's and a person still very involved with Holmes sports, first off it is just simply a basketball school, always has been , always will it seems, Holmes had some nice football teams thru the years, the early 70's with Doug Speaks and company, in the 90's with James Hayes and company, not state champ great , but good, i remember Reynolds Flynn saying the year after they were runner up in the state, 60 kids went out for basketball, more than the football team carries. Holmes numbers as a school are way down, in the 70's Holmes would graduate around 400 students or more, i beleive this year they graduated around 150, give or take a few, it seems when Holmes has a few good years the coaches move on, Coach Trospper, Coach Lickert, to mention a few , i think Ben Nevels is the guy for the job, his is great with the young men, knows the game and i can not think of a classier guy for the young men to look up to, some of the kids just dont want to put the time and hard work in, but the ones that do, deserve to be supported and acknowledged, Holmes numbers are down to the low 30's , not including the freshman, if Coach Nevels is given time and i think he will, things will improve, but they need more kids to go out and support the program, tradition is huge, look at Highland, what a tradition, in basketball Holmes has the tradition and everyone wants to be apart of that,Holmes is very small in size overall and numbers this year, look for things to improve.

I remember the team when Doug Speaks was a senior and Martin was the QB, 1970? Highlands was losing to Holmes with about 4 minutes left in the game. Highlands had the ball on their own 20. Everybody panicked in the stands and were screaming for Highlands to throw the ball but they didn't. Back then Highlands rarely threw the ball. Dave Freer ran up the gut and had a long run to the eight yard line. The very next play Dukie Snyder ran it into the end zone . Highlands D held on for the win.

 

The Martin kid that played QB for Holmes was the son of my supervisor, both were shocked that Holmes lost that game.

Thanks for answering. I played in the 80's and they were fairly strong then too. Ton of athletes. I just don't know where they go. And in the 80's, HHS was a bball and football school. I believe they won the region more than anyone in the 80s. So it can happen, buy perhaps those days are gone now with year round sports.
