Prior to seeing Simon Kenton play, I had a suspicion that UKfan was drastically overstating their dominance. After seeing them play, that suspicion was exceedingly proven to be true. Aside from maybe a hand full of players, they are small and undisciplined. I honestly think my freshman team had more players over 6'. I saw a team that had one "decent" receiver, a very average running back that was small and had average, to maybe slightly above average, speed and an offensive line that looked downright uncoordinated. If SK is #1 in NKY, I think that is more representative of the weak state of NKY football at the moment, however, unless you are completely insane there is no way you can justify SK being #1 in NKY.

 

I like tweaking UKfan as much as anyone but I think your analysis is very biased. I have no idea what team you were watching but SK is nothing like what you described. They are a very good team with good size and an outstanding WR and RB. They are inexperienced at QB but he looks like he will be a good one.

I watched the Campbell County game. I realize that SK walked away with that one at the end, but the first half was evenly matched, and if not for numerous costly turnover by the camels, I believe that game would have ended that way. I just never got the feeling that SK was ever a dominant team. No freak athletes, no dominant OL play. Nothing about them had a "wow" factor. As far as "good size"? No, I refuse to admit that they have good size. They have 1 or 2 players on defense (45) being one, who have good size, but that is not enough for me to generalize that this team has good size.

FWIW, I watched the game with a prominent member on BGP, and I know he felt the same way as I did. Nothing about the SK team, that night at least, indicated that they were nearly as dominant as they were made out to be.

This is not true. I played for Simon and was a fan before and after and you can't honestly say we have beat plenty. In fact, you can probably count on 1 hand how many we have beat. Not sure how long you have been associated with the program but from the early 90's up until about 7 or 8 years ago Simon was the school you padded stats against.

Thank you for stepping in...We all know he exaggerates. He's been doing it for a long time and we like to call him out on it. He is "true-blue" Pioneer though and I think his fingers type faster than his thoughts can filter sometimes.

I love how these conversations always come back to the same thing. How often does Highlands beat St.Xavier/Trinity/Male/Manual? Not necessarily a shot at those guys (maybe a little one...) but the Louisville schools are really good. No team in NKY has the speed, size and depth to match up with those guys. You may sneak out a win every once in a while but not very often.
