The game was not as close as the score indicates. Beechwood was a 2 point conversion away from making it a running clock with 11:41 to go in the first half, leading 34-0. They were stopped on the 2 point try and then never got the running clock. Fumbles and sloppy play set in from there. Bellevue scored all their points in the second half against Beechwood's JV. Neither team was able to throw the ball in the very wet conditions. Both QB's lost control of the ball more than once trying to throw it and had to fall on the loose ball. In the second half, both teams lined up in the power I and ran it between the tackles the rest of the game.

Here are your scoring plays:

First Quarter

9:27... BW Stringer 16 yard run; German XP 7-0

5:46... BW Fieger to Stokes 32 yard pass; German XP 14-0

2:58... BW Fieger 1 yard run; German XP 21-0

0:53... BW DT Justin Overstreet intercepted a screen pass 45 yard TD return; German XP 28-0

Second Quarter

11:41... BW Stringer 3 yard run; 2 point try no good 34-0

Third Quarter

0:00... Chase 57 yard run; 2 point try no good 34-6

Fourth Quarter

9:35... Stringer 6 yard run; German XP 41-6

4:38... Alec Hazeres 1 yard run; 2 point try no good 41-12

1:10... Chase 16 yard run; 2 point try no good 41-18

Final Score Beechwood 41 Bellevue 18

Beechwood rolls on. I really am not seeing anything that gets in the way till Frankfort. New Cath is looking like a win right now with the way each team is playing. I know you can never count either team out in that rivalry, but I will certainly take my chances with the Tigers.

Question for anyone there......Do you think BW went for 2 with 11 minutes to go in first half to force the running clock to start and get off the field quicker in miserable conditions? I would not blame them if they did. And did that appear to intensify Bellevue's effort to not allow a running clock? Or was it just a botched PAT.

And I did note that BW scored to make it 40-6 later and kicked the PAT to make it 41-6 and only a 35 point lead. I assume that was all JV at that point?

Yes, that is exactly what you should do. In bad conditions, this late in the year, don't risk inadvertent injury. Get to running clock, rest key players, move on to next week. As an opposing coach, I would have been ticked had they not went for 2 in that situation.

I would say the conditions should not be a factor. If your goal is to shorten the game get to 36 and get the clock running.

The other side of the coin is that if you keep it at 34 or 35 you get your subs a lot of PT and your starters still get the desired rest and decreased chance of injury.

Both make very valid points. However, as bad as the weather was last night, I would go with plantman's comment.

In response to comments above:

1. Studer walked off the field on his own but was limping. He did not reenter the game and was on crutches after the game. Since he walked off on his own, speculation would be that it isn't serious but you never know.

2. Undoubtedly Beechwood went for 2 to try and get the running clock early in the second quarter. Late in the game, there was only a quarter or so left so they didn't bother trying to get the running clock. The rain was very light by then and both teams were basically running clock anyway playing power I football and running it every play.

3. Beechwood's first team defense did not play in the second half. At one point, they did bring in a couple of seniors who start on offensive line at DT to stop a Bellevue drive, which they did. Most of the first team offense stayed on the field till the last TD to maintain possession and run clock.

4. No, there were no penalties thrown on the JV offense to stop TD's. Bellevue still had much of their first team defense in the game and they stopped Beechwood's JV offense. Bellevue only has about 25 players on their roster so it is understandable that some of their starters stay on the field the whole game.

Agreed on last night. Just pointing out the downside to the running clock.

1. I agree

2. No doubt going for running clock

3. 2 down lineman to stop the up front push.

4. Bellevue had 22 players dressed. I would say 15 or so get regular playing time. There were about 4-5 kids that only got in on the bellevue kickoffs in the 4th quarter.

I was a little disturbed that Bellevue kept their starting lineup in the entire game. Later in the 4th quarter the BW JV subs were playing. Bellevue's #19, 20, 22 all run hard. Does Bellevue play a froshmore schedule? Who are the back for that game? They should have been in the game at that point. I think BW had all sophomores and 1 freshman in the game at that point.

There was a scheduled JV game schedule at Conner for 10/11. I think it was cancelled because of the weather.
