I'm tired of seeing the same thing over and over when it comes to Newport. Instead of their fans praising them for a great game it's the refs fault over and over or Newport was the better team, well clearly NCC was the better team last night. Price is a great football player and had a great game for the Wildcats. Smith had a great game for the Breds along with the rest of the team. Good luck to both teams the rest of the years and congrats to NCC.

Jake Cain & Chris Kelly both have brothers on the Red Devils this year, those are two players I referenced in the 1st bolded.

 

Also, NCC's middle school team's numbers are just extremely low now anyway. An even bigger deal now than before.

:idunno: He does play on the Newport hoops team, and is a very good player.

Here is a helpful hint for fans of both teams. NCC won and now has two more games in the district. Newport lost and has two more games in the district. That is about it. If fans get caught up in the "next time around" talk you might be surprised when that never happens. There isn't all that much difference between NCC, Newport, Lloyd and Walton Verona so a rematch might never happen.

Agreed Frank, NCC appears to have won their district with games yet to play against Brossart and Holy Cross. Newport still plays Lloyd to determine second place in the district. The quickest way for Newport to get the NCC rematch would be to lose to Lloyd and play them in the second round of the regional tournament. If the Wildcats beat Lloyd and place second in the district, they will need to go through Walton prior to having a possible NCC rematch in the regional final.

 

As much as Newport wants another shot at the Breds, Walton may have quite a bit to say about that!

There are 2 matchups I'd love to see. I'd love to see Newport have to go through Walton first. It would be a rematch of a week 2 game in which Newport won. Now I'm aware the RB for Walton went down the 2nd half which has left some uncertainty in fans if Newport really is a better team. And of course a rematch with NCC would be great as well. IF Newport finishes 2nd, which I think they will, playing Walton is fine with me. I'd like to see them knock Walton off with Walton at full strength and go into the Regional Final with NCC with a chance to knock them off. Of course the cards have to fall in perfectly for that to happen but it would be nice to see. But before anything of that nature can be decided everybody has to handle their business in the coming weeks.

I have coached at an inner city school, so I know how some schools respond to negative behavior of their players. When you can watch a game and see how players are and how that behavior continues onto other games, it leads people to believe that coaches condone the behavior. When players have to run or are disciplined at practice, for actions of other players on the field, then yes I can speak on that, that Newcath coaches discipline their players for misbehavior.

As far as asking footballbaby how they would know if Newcath players had bad attitudes during game, I know they weren't there. Read their post, they asked how Johnson did during the game. Why would they ask that if they were at the game??? Come on.

 

And I do have an issue with blaming the refs for losing the game. That implies that the Newcath football didn't beat them and that they didn't earn the win. Both teams played hard, and Newcath beat them fair and square. They didn't need the help of the refs.

 

You said you're a woman correct? So I assume you haven't coached football then at an inner city school. However that is good that you have coached at inner city school for some sport. So first of all you have to realize that football is a different game than other sports, because it is a violent sport. Second since you have coached at an inner city school then you would also know that it is a process, because its a whole climate change that a coach has to change. Its not a quick one or two year fix. Which I believe this is what only his second year there correct? Things do not get fixed right away at an inner city school, it takes time.

 

You talk about what the NCC coaches do. Well haven't the last few coaches came from working under previous coaches at NCC? So they have not had to go in and change the culture of their program, the culture of the program and the way it has ran has already been established. So every kid in that program from day one knows the expectations because all the kids above them already know it and follow it because that is all they know. I will say this and I can almost guarntee this. You can switch coaching staffs right now, and the NCC program would still look like its coached right and with discipline. While at Newport it would still look like things aren't getting changed from the outside looking in, even if those NCC coaches did the exact same thing at Newport as they do at NCC for discipline.

 

Its going to take a whole culture change, and success for the kids to buy in. This coach I believe is in his second year. If its still going on in year four and five after full classes have played four years under him and its all his players then you can say something. So it is very unfair for you to say what you did, and say nothing is being done at Newport while the NCC coaches do take care of things. So as I said you're are complaining about these posters and what they are saying, and you are coming off just as bad now as them with what you have said. Which makes you not so different than the people you are complaining about right now.

Well said. The main issue, and this is from having gone to grade school in Newport, and having a ton of friends who played for successful Wildcat teams is the community. It tends to get very negative at the time that the program needs them to be most supportive. That will be the hardest part of the culture change. I hope that it does improve, b/c meaningful Bell games used to be the one that I looked forward to the most besides Highlands and Beechwood.

Ok getting frustrated with this portion of the game focus. Personal fouls were committed by both teams. With the exception of maybe one targeting call ALL were warranted. Neither staff should be overly happy with their respective teams as far as this is concerned. Not one person said it was ok to commit personal fouls just because of where you go to school. It was stated that a huge cultural change is going on in Newport. And that is 100% correct!!!!!

 

This is a teaching moment for both programs and trust me the Newport staff is doing exactly that and was addressed. So for those NCC folk who feel their staff is addressing it and the Newport staff is not you are wrong. I have listened to a read many many complaints from the NCC folk about Newport and their play from Friday night. It is very easy "to cast stones" but I for one have the utmost confidence in Coach Schmitz to address any and all problems that may occur within the Newport football program. Further I have several examples of NCC students doing things that would be considered inappropriate and or completely out of line in a variety of sports, including from the football games on Thurs. and Fri. But I consider those things to be handled by the NCC coaching staffs and not getting on the message boards.

 

I have the highest regard for what NCC accomplishes and all they do! However, just like EVERY SCHOOL in the state of KY. they have students that do things they should not. That is why they are called students because they need to learn in all aspects of life, not just on the field of play.

 

Lets worry about our own houses and keep doing great things their and not try to tell others how to do their job.

So NCC is NOT perfect and you don't see one person on here claiming they are do you? I simply stated I HOPE the issue was addressed by Newport because it WAS addressed by NCC. Have no worries I do take care of my own home and I don't have to tell anyone how to do their jobs my friend.
