Deciding how to Vote

Featured Replies

Don't watch the ads and/or get your information from television. Don't get your information from the front page of your local newspaper..ie. the Lexington Herald Leader which is a liberal rag.

Follow much of the advice above and do you own research on the issue important to you. However, the issues "important" to many people are issues that they have now been told are really important and maybe in the whole scheme of things maybe shouldn't be national issues....such as gay marriage....sorry, I just don't care one way or the other.

Lastly, I frequently write letters to my congressman and senators regarding issues of importance to me. Their response determines whether they get my next vote.

Another piece of wonderful advice from the BGP chapter of the Know Nothing Club. Does same apply to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a most decidedly conservative newspaper?

Hmmmm...impressive. I've always wanted to belong somewhere.:walk:

But, yes, I would exclude any newspaper headline.

I nominated you for president of that club Doomer. I'm thinking of running for events coordinator.

If I burn my library card, will that also make me a smarter voter?

Saying that the road to becoming a smarter voter runs through canceling one's newspaper subscription is one of the stupidest things I've read on these boards. Ever.

If I burn my library card, will that also make me a smarter voter?

What are you talking about? No one said to cancel their newspaper subscription. They basically said to not put too much stock in what the local newspapers have to say. What's the problem with that?

Advocating that less info is better than more info is ludicrous. Thinking like this perpetuates the stereotype that Kentucky is a dumb state -- "I don't need to know nothin' to vote."

Interpretation....don't make one's decison on the headlines....get into the details.

Oh, how I enjoy your posts. It's like watching Ridiculousness on MTV. You know something totally outrageous is coming, but you watch anyway.

I agree!!!!

Now, point out the post where you read it so I can also read it.

BGP Ky/National Politics board = microcosm of politics in this country.

I certainly agree with your second sentence. However, I think the distinction should be front page vs. editorial page. Objective news stories are placed on the front page. Subjective opinion pieces are placed on the editorial page. Or at least that's the way it used to be.

Regardless, one becomes smart about elections (or any subject, for that matter) by being an avid reader, not a selective reader.

What's even more ridiculous are the likes some of these posts generate. It's almost as if people are afraid to disagree lest they risk upsetting the e-fraternity.

Wow, you know what's funnier? Per norm, I don't see one post where you offer our young voter any advice. You have some reading issues? Or do you just prefer to shoot conversation off on some goofy tangent and attack us "linear thinkers"? And if your thought process is non-linear, can we assume it's scattered?

I gave excellent advice in post 27. Be an avid consumer of information. That is foremost. Do not set up up info filters. Do not tell young voters what NOT to read. Read all kinds of stuff ... right, middle, left ... New York Times, Huff Post, Newsmax, and the golden nuggets from the Pachyderm Club on BGP.

Then God will come to you in a dream on Nov. 1 and tell you how to vote.
