Lancers may win GCL South this year. Very good team. Again, don't get fooled by week 6 computer rankings.

I have been following Cincinnati H.S. football for about 23 years, I'm quite familiar with the Harbin system, but also Mt. Healthy. They are a fine program, but the Beechwood folks would have you believe over the last couple of years that Mt. Healthy was this football power in Cincinnati. They aren't.

 

As to the Harbin system, I'm not sure you're completely up to speed with it. They absolutely get points for out of state schools, hence the term "Harbin Cow". Here is the verbiage:

 

Non-member OHSAA school opponents are assigned a point value based upon male enrollment in grades 9-11. Second level points are awarded based upon the point value of the OHSAA non-member school multiplied times the number of victories by the non-member school (one-half value for a tie).

Note: It is the responsibility of the OHSAA member school to report the weekly results of the games of non-member OHSAA by entering the information into myOHSAA by 10 A.M. on the Monday following the game.

5.31 When the non-member school plays more than 10 regular season games, only the first 10 games will count unless the game with the OHSAA member school is the 11th game in which case the nine games preceding it shall be counted.

5.32 When the non-member school plays less than 10 regular season games, the open dates will be considered an open date except in those states which conduct a state tournament in which case the first round tournament game in those states will be counted, when the first round game is played before the final OHSAA football computer ranking is completed

 

Historically no. Recently yes, including a deep run last year, nearly beating state champ Loveland. As for points, how many points do they get for playing a 1a Kentucky team? Virtually none.

19 minutes ago it was "LOL and ... you do realize they get zero points..", now it is "virtually none". I don't think it is my Harbin knowledge that is in question. If you play a 1A school that will rack up 7 or 8 wins in their 10 games, it is a fair amount. This system is why people love playing HHS and CovCath, they have a fair amount of boys and even with their schedules will rack up 7-9 wins. As a coach at Moeller told me once, we play Trinity to get better, we play CovCath to pick up points.

calpreps.com says Mt. Healthy is better than Covington Catholic. Mt. Healthy would be ranked #10 in the entire state, all classes included, in KY. What do you think?

a) Never said they were "not a good team". Said they weren't a football power in Ohio.

b) Who said anything about Mt. Healthy playing a D5 or D6 team in Ohio? Where did that even come from?

c) Who said they did or didn't like the system? Who said all wins are equal? You said, "Lol. You do realize they get zero points for playing an out of state school like BW, so they are a game down?" I'm not splitting hairs -- you were in fact dead wrong and are having a hard time coming to terms with it. You misunderstood the system, which is fine and perfectly normal, but instead of owning that, you're now throwing all kinds of other things at me.

d) Who said Beechwood wasn't solid? Beechwood is a great, not good, great 1A program. Among the two best in the state of KY.

 

When you come at someone with LOL and condescending remarks like "You do realize this is a computer, not humans?", it is better if you are actually correct and / or understand the system yourself.

I didn't realize they played in a lower division. #2 in D2, #4 in the GCL South.

 

Since you didn't realize La Salle was a D2 school you probably don't realize how good they are this year. There probably isn't a team in KY that could beat them this year.

Try to follow me. A D5 or D6 school in Ohio is the equivalent, or close to it, of a 1a school in KY. Big schools get very little SOS points for playing them. My assumption, and this I don't know, is there is somehow a system in place that assigns a KY team an Ohio classification for SOS modeling, i.e. BW would be assigned a D5 SOS rating, or D4. Again, you continue with symantics. You are right. I said "no". Meant that figuratively rather than literally, but if you want to focus on that, cool by me. You brought it up trying to discredit Mt Healthy by using computer rankings, which I countered by saying they are hurt right now by playing BW. If you feel that a win vs BW does as much for them as a W vs another D1 or D2 Ohio school, then I simply cannot help you. If it did, all teams would follow the SK scheduling model. Last point. History somehow has more relevance in a discussion than present day? What does it matter how good they used to be? Bottom line is they are very good right now. This conversation has reached a point of irrelevance on this board. Done with it.

I agree Lasalle is very good this year. We will know ALOT more about them in a few weeks as their schedule is back loaded - still have to play X, Mo and Elder (what a gauntlet)...They could lose all three of those games and still win a DII state title however...
