September 28, 201412 yr I think Michigan will wait until the end of the season... If they fire him any sooner than that... 1) they run the risk of interim catching lightning in a bottle and ripping off some wins...making it hard not to give him a shot at the job full-time. 2) pressure to name a coach will grow weekly...if #1 Target is Harbaugh, they have to wait until after the season to fire Hoke...just to take some pressure of of the hiring process time line. There will still be tons of speculation about Harbaugh but 5 to 7 weeks is better than almost 4 months if he is fired now. Because Harbaugh isn't going to pull a Petrino and leave in the middle of a NFL season. Add in the cost savings of waiting and I think it is very likely to happen after January 1, as well.
September 28, 201412 yr Add in the cost savings of waiting and I think it is very likely to happen after January 1, as well. Yep, $1M saved by waiting until Jan 1st... This years recruiting is going to stink for Michigan.
September 28, 201412 yr Harbaugh may listen. Lots of complaining by 49ers about him treating them like kids.
September 28, 201412 yr New report says UM more interested in John Harbaugh. That would be interesting!
September 28, 201412 yr If they get Harbaugh the feuds with Michigan State and Ohio State will become super-charged. That is just the way he is. I think he would be a great fit for Michigan if they are looking for a Bo-type coach. I doubt if Michigan is concerned over the salary he might command. I don't believe Stoops' resume is lengthy enough yet.
September 28, 201412 yr New report says UM more interested in John Harbaugh. Makes sense since the other one has little ones in the bay and they love it there.
September 29, 201412 yr Makes sense since the other one has little ones in the bay and they love it there. Why in the world would John Harbaugh have ANY INTEREST in the Michigan job??? He is a Super Bowl winning coach of an NFL team. I cannot see him leaving the Ravens for ANY college job - let alone a mediocre job like Michigan. This is not the 80's. Michigan is not that great a job any more. If it was a great job, Hoak would not be there now. Oh, and I cannot see Jim Harbaugh going to Michigan either. If the Niners get rid of him (and that is possible as he does not get along with the front office), he would get offers from about 5 other NFL teams immediately as well as offers from better college situations (if he has any interest in going back to college)...
September 30, 201412 yr If/when Michigan makes the move after the season, I'd think both Harbaugh's are contacted. Jim seems to have problems on the Bay, even after beating Philly. I don't get it but.... John and the Ravens are winning games, but who knows what all went on behind the scenes and who may fall when the whole Rice thing trickles down to the organization. Harbaugh may have burned some bridges, or be so peeved at management that he's ready to move on. If either landed at Michigan next year, I wouldn't be shocked. I'd be a bit surprised though. Les Miles seems like a solid answer. His ties to Michigan are there, and it may be a good time to get out of LSU. I can't see Stoops on a short list, but then I can't think of too many better names who may be willing to move either.
