Nice to see Coach Bob Schneider now an NCC Assistant Coach still on the NCC sideline.

I will say Lloyd needs to cleanup the false starts and had a couple of bad shotgun snaps and 2 face mask penalties. NCC had an assortment of personal fouls, unsportsman-likes, and blocks in the back.

 

The one sack NCC gave up was kind of a curious call......up 14-0 and running the ball successfully on a drive into Lloyd territory in the mid 3rd quarter. On a 2nd and 4 from the 25 (hint you have 3 downs to get 6 yards and keep the clock running.....a dropback pass call results in a 8 yard loss. On 3rd and 12 a dropped WR screen stops the clock. On 4th down a screen to RB gains 1 yard. Lloyd ball and the start of a nice drive into NCC territory that ended in a pick.

 

This was very disconcerting to say the least.

 

It did leave one "head-scratching".

This is why you need to play a beefier schedule if you want to get to the next level.

 

Darn it! Where is the "LOVE" button for this!!!! Great job NCC. You do it right up there on the hill...for football, ONLY for football. No credit anywhere else!:banana:

Jacob Smith had a strong, punishing rushing night for the Newport Central Catholic High School football team.

 

His biggest contribution came from his arm, however, when he threw a 52-yard pass to Erik Anderson to set up NCC's second touchdown of the game. The play lifted the Thoroughbreds to a 28-0 win over Lloyd Memorial in the Class 2A, District 6 opener for both teams. It was also NCC's first win (1-4) and Lloyd's first loss (4-1).

 

"It was really big," Smith said. "It helped us a lot and gave us a lot of momentum going into the second half, being up two touchdowns."

 

Leading 7-0 with under three minutes to go in the first half, NewCath pulled out the bag of tricks on third-and-8 from its own 16. Sophomore quarterback Patrick Henschen pitched out to Smith, who rolled out near the right sideline, set up to throw once, pulled the ball back down, directed Anderson to run forward, pump-faked the ball, and unleashed a deep throw down the left sideline to a wide-open Anderson. The play went for 52 yards to the Lloyd 31.

Kudos to NCC for scheduling, preparing for district play by taking on all challenges. I understand Turner would LOVE to do that but can't get anyone to play the Juggs. Is that a function of Lloyd historically not being a contender or the gate being too low or ???

I would imagine a little of both. If NCC and Beechwood struggle at times to be competitive with 6A and 5A teams I could see where most of those teams would avoid Lloyd because it would often be a running clock. Add in no crowd and it is pretty easy for the 6A and 5A teams to go in another direction.

He's been an "assistant coach" for near 15+ years now. If you know what I mean.

Good to see Ncc finally accumulated their first positive rushing yard on the season after 5 games! It's good they moved off that net zero. A big shout out to the right side of the offensive line everyone was so critical of last week.

Smith rushing for 148 and tossing the TD throw to Anderson is impressive. The line must have played well last night. Can we give those kids a thumbs up?
