Was at Beechwood vs Conner game last night. Beechwood received two Yellow cards for what seem to be away from the action calls. I'm not clear on one, but one of the calls was because the BW player did not toss the ball to the Opposing team for a throw-in. She thought it was a BW throw-in and picked it up to take it. When she realized that it wasn't, she dropped the ball. She didn't toss it away from the player. I don't think there's a rule that says you have to hand the ball to the opposing team so they can throw it in while you not in position to help defend. This isn't Rec Soccer. This is competitive H.S. soccer and you don't have to be nice.

 

I'm getting a little tired of Refs interpreting the rules as they see fit. Or in this case, making one up. You ARE NOT THE GAME stop trying to be.

Unless your launching it over in the woods then I don't see why she received a yellow. Its good sportsmanship to just sit the ball down. Sounds like that is what she did. Heck, you can even just drop the ball, not an issue either. Are they going to start giving yellow's out for yelling at the ball girls/boys to give you the ball now? If I am out of position or winning the game in the final minutes, I am not just handing the other team the ball with a bow on it. I am throwing that thing down and getting in position. If they want to give out a justifiable yellow, then how about giving to goal keepers for stalling the game. I have seen that more this season than seasons past. Taking about 30 seconds to take a goal kick.

Many club coaches will tell their players to pick up every ball that goes out of bounds and attempt to throw in because you never know what the official might call on the attempted quick restart. Then if the ball is awarded to the other team, you simply roll the ball away so that your opponent has to go and get it which allows your team time to get itself set. I have heard of cards being given for intentionally throwing the ball away, but it is very rare indeed.

It may be possible, but I doubt it. Got the same story from two different people. In the stands, we assumed it was something she said, but he actually told her and coach it was for "Intentional Delay of Game" I know from my own eyes that the ball did not go more than 5 or 6 feet from the girl.

Dropping the ball would keep it at her feet, not 5 or 6 feet away..........So maybe it was tossed and therefore could have been a delay........No telling what happened.....

I agree with this. I find these stories dubious when they come from someone that probably watched the incident from 70 yards away.

I must say that I do agree with SOME of the refs feeling that the $5 is being paid to see them.......there is one on the boys side (not sure if he does ladies games) that I call "Look at me," because in every game I have seen him do, he has inserted himself into the game to make it seem about him.....

Everyone knows which ref you don't like and as I always say, you're crazy.

"Not like" isn't the right words.........don't care for his style of reffing............I'm sure he is a good guy, have never, ever seen anything to the contrary........

 

I can say with almost 100% certainty, that he probably doesn't care for my style of cheering.....

I hate this statement. Just because they get noticed doesn't mean they did anything wrong. The ref that gave Zidane a red card in the World Cup final sure got noticed, was that his fault?

The fans do not pay to watch the refs. They pay to watch the players. Too many times the refs feel like they are the "show" when they go running at a player to give them a card or do something else to draw attention to themselves. Anyone who has been around soccer or sports in general know exactly what I mean.
