The first concert I went to on my own was Cincinnati Jammin' On main to see Seven Mary Three :lol2: What made it even better was the fact that they had a 'riot' at the concert, and they tear gassed the crowd.

I wasn't there but If I remember correctly the police were not hip to the fact that the crowd was moshing, and they thought that the crowd was fighting, so they jumped in a made the situation worse. Sure, by that time moshing had been around for a while, and had mostly gone off without a hitch at many shows, but in Cincinnati it had yet to be seen at a street concert where the police were the security. They were completely caught off guard and unaware of this concert behavioral phenomenon.

I remember seeing a big metal crowd barrier, the ones that look like a bike rack, go flying through the air like it was a tiny piece of nothing not too long before the cops started getting involved.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]50223[/ATTACH] Not cool at all... I am so glad that for whatever reason I did not attend. I recall knowing about the show beforehand and wanting to go, but can't remember why I didn't. I've always been the anti-mosh type so at shows I've always stood far enough away from it so as to not inadvertently get shoved. Here's a few references about the show that I came across. 7 Mary 3: Concert Scrapbook / Cincinnatti, OH 7 Mary 3: Concert Scrapbook / Cincinnati, OH Year in Review - The Enquirer - December 29, 1996 Apparently because of this show, and The Who Show Tragedy, The Smashing Pumpkins canceled a Riverfront Coliseum show shortly afterwards because they wanted their fans to have an area in front of the stage to be able to mosh and the city denied allowing them to do so. Moshing went on all the time at places like Bogarts.
April 20, 201511 yr Author I remember seeing the Smashing Pumpkins at Hara Arena in Dayton around this same time and did not have floor seats, but looking down on the floor...it was just plain nuts. I had never seen a mosh pit so large ever that pretty much took over the entire floor. I could have sworn that I was witnessing the end times.

But with that, if it's true that they cancelled a Cincinnati show because they wanted the crowd to have room to mosh that would be very surprising for me to hear.

"near riot" is what I think it was called. I was there as well. In my recollection it wasn't about moshing, more about crowd control and the push of people trying to get in without tickets. One fence came down, then another.
