I agree with your statement about It being a win and Fun for the kids. That is always good, but unfortunately that HC team may very well be the worst in many many years. It in no way represents anything close to the solid 1A playoff teams we will face later in playoffs. It may not even be up to par with a round 1 team we will face.

 

The "Beechwood Hate" thread as you called it, was not anything against the kids so you don't need to defend them. This is a very talented BW team. Maybe the best since 2008. There were high expectations and "The Old Guard" and "BW Natives" are frustrated with what hasn't changed... Same old crappy play calling, lack of adjustments and simply not being prepared.

 

It is all subjective, but I consider the 2011 team more talented than this one. This team has time to prove me wrong and I hope they do.

BW is going to be fine. They may take their lumps against the bigger schools on the schedule, but will be fine against similar sized schools, which is what matters. The road thru Frankfort and Mayfield is going to be tough for them, so those lumps could possibly be what wins them a championship. There is a lot of football left this year for the Tigers. Let's not be to rough on them. However, for HC, they need a lot of work on their toughness and physicality. BW was not bigger than them and yet BW man-handled them all night. This is the worst HC by far, but if they can get better in the trenches, they might have a better record than last year

Holy Cross was not a very good football team last night. I'm surprised they were able to score on Simon Kenton. Fieger only threw 6 passes. Would have liked to have seen Beechwood work on the short passing game too. I understand just driving the ball down their throats on the first drive but their passing game needs some live action practice. In comparison Simon Kenton threw the ball 13 times vs Holy Cross. I do have a problem with a large number of Beechwoods defensive starters still in the game up 44-0 with less than 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter of a running clock game. Empty the benches and get those guys as many snaps as you can!

 

Especially given the fact that it led to a season ending injury of a good player and an emotional leader of the team. I know more than us "old school guys" were baffled by that.

I can actually buy into that. IMO that team was not as broad. Though it might have been greater talent, The talent was focused in fewer players. This can and did hurt when injuries occurred.

 

Like you, I hope the coaches prove me wrong.

I think this is actually a good way to characterize this win. It isn't a measuring stick win, but it was impressive to everyone who saw the game and are not just comparing scores and general knowledge of football teams.

Butt kicking. This week it is the good guys. It is much more fun when you are the one doing the kicking. I expected a big win but it was easier than expected. I see nkypete says Holy Cross played bad tonight and there is no doubt about that. The question is did the Tigers make them look worse than they are. Regardless, put win #1 in the books and move on to next week. I see Franklin County won a close one over Frankfort. Next week's game will be a measuring stick for the Tigers.

I don't think one can say HC played bad tonight, I think HC is just bad period. It wasn't an off night for them, this year it is the norm for the team. When one says they played bad it infers that they are usually better than that. I don't think they are this year. I think they are just not a very good team.

 

If BW wouldn't have beat them by bunches then I would of been worried about BW big time.

As a third party who saw both games, I was most impressed with the Beechwood defensive effort against HC. As I said in an earlier post, I think SK was more bigger, faster, and more explosive offensively against HC. However, for 1A competition, Beechwood's offensive style and execution will be more than adequate.
