This week's game vs the Scott Eagles looks to be probably their toughest opponent next to a future showdown with the Thoroughbreds of NCC.

Newport is a much improved program, played a great opener losing by 4pts to Mason Co. Bounced back with a solid 10 pt victory over a very good veteran Walton Verona team. Here is their schedule.

Can they win out and be crowned the most improved football team in NKY?

I think they have a very good chance.

Sep 12, 14 Scott away 7:00 PM

Sep 19, 14 Williamsburg home 7:30 PM

Sep 26, 14 Pendleton County home 7:00 PM

Oct 3, 14 Bishop Brossart away 7:00 PM

Oct 10, 14 Newport Central Catholic home 7:00 PM

Oct 17, 14 Holy Cross (Covington) home 7:00 PM

Oct 24, 14 Lloyd Memorial home 7:00 PM

Oct 31, 14 Holmes away 7:00 PM

Maybe but maybe one could make a case for Lloyd running the table? Newport lost to Mason Co and beat WV with WV's best offensive player not playing after halftime. Meanwhile Lloyd has routed Dayton and Holmes. And if Newport or Lloyd had played Cooper and Campbell Co they would be 0-2 just like NCC who will likely be 0-4 in non-district play to start the season. So we don't really know yet how improved those teams really are.

Lloyd is capable of beating NCC an Newport. But I think NCC will bring it together an win that district. But the games between those three will be good games.

as for Lloyd in the discussion, they beat Dayton and Holmes... neither one of those are better than WV. Now it comes down to Newport and NewCath. Newport played a solid Mason Co. team and lost by 4 (w/o Mason's starting QB) and beat a solid WV team. NewCath has lost to two much bigger (and in most cases should be better) schools in Cooper and Campbell. The district is going to come down between Newport and NewCath, sorry Lloyd. Scott poses a good threat but its a winnable game for Newport as well as Williamsburg. Newport should be no worse than 7-3 if not 8-2. And as for Newport the best in 2A....... find out in December

Newport is good. But mason county is avg at best. An Walton's best player sat out the 2nd half. After he done rushed for over 100 yds. So Newport's D better not not give up more than there offense can score. Cause there offense isn't that potent. Scott will score.

IMO... i think newports the best team in 2a right now.

You are surely talking 2A in N. Ky., right?

I don't think Newport will beat Williamsburg or New Cath. I do think they are capable of beating both and running the table. That will depend on their defense.

I see Scott, Williamsburg, Newport Catholic and Lloyd Memorial as potential stumbling blocks, and maybe even Holmes as well. Now I'm not saying Newport can't (or won't) beat all of those teams. But I don't believe there is near enough data out there to say Newport is a substantial favorite over those teams either.
