September 1, 201412 yr Don't really know how I feel about the move as an A's fan. I'm glad they have some power, but I don't really know that Dunn is the answer for what ails them either.
September 1, 201412 yr VIDEO: Adam Dunn goes yard in first AB for A's - CBSSports.com Saw that. The A's have a few bats that hit one type of pitcher well. Fuld, Dunn, Gomes, a few more all fit that bill. They need to get healthy and have the pitching staff step up and throw like they can. Being swept by the Halos to end last week killed them though.
September 2, 201412 yr Rather odd seeing him in a #10 jersey. Said the same thing on twitter yesterday to a buddy of mine who works for the A's.
September 2, 201412 yr I hope he does well for the A's. He deserves to play in the playoffs atleast once in his career.
September 4, 201412 yr Said the same thing on twitter yesterday to a buddy of mine who works for the A's. Buddy who works for the A's = did he turn down NASA engineering for crunching stats? J/K, but kind of serious.
September 4, 201412 yr I hope he does well for the A's. He deserves to play in the playoffs atleast once in his career. Hopefully he's a guy that appreciates it and is enough to push the A's over the hump. I've been an A's fan my entire life, my senior year in high school was the 20 game streak with Mulder, Zito, Hudson, and company, and have seen a lot of postseason heartbreak for a team that's fighting an uphill battle against most of the teams they face to get where they want to go. Beane pushed all of his chips into the middle of the table with the trades for Smardzija & Lester. It's well known Lester is a second half rental so it's all in. The offense has been tanking after the All-Star break, but they seem to have some guys in Fuld, Gomes, Dunn, and the like who can really mash guys from one side of the plate. As an A's fan, that's hopefully going to be valuable come the postseason when things get tight. Been in a huge slump lately, but hopefully getting a guy like Dunn was one of the final pieces to the puzzle. If not, it's going to be a long offseason because the long term process of building (and subsequently rebuilding) the A's is going to come back to the beginning of the cycle. I'm not holding my breath, because as an A's fan, I know heartbreak, and while things don't look the best now, I'm still holding out for them come playoff time once everyone is healthy and they have use of more roster slots.
September 4, 201412 yr Buddy who works for the A's = did he turn down NASA engineering for crunching stats? J/K, but kind of serious. No...but that sounds interesting. We got out Masters together, he hails from the tiny state of Rhode Island, and is a great guy.
September 5, 201412 yr No...but that sounds interesting. We got out Masters together, he hails from the tiny state of Rhode Island, and is a great guy. I just read in Moneyball and took it that the A's employed a lot of academics in their organization.
