I would like to see a change in KHSAA policy. I wish they would allow every student athlete one transfer in their academic career. Anything beyond the first transfer should be ruled ineligible for a scholastic year. But that should be appealable because some kids make legitimate moves or have a parent relocated for work, etc.

 

I do, however think out of state and international transfers should be closely scrutinized. Some schools just go and find out of state kids because they know they will be eligible because it will obviously be a move. If someone wanted to build a team, they could just get all out of state kids, have at least one parent move into the district, and be immediately eligible. If Cordia had moved a parent with all of their players last year, everything would have been legal according to current KHSAA standards.

 

Agree with most of what you've said about the one transfer and strict scrutiny for out of state or foreign transfers.

 

When a kid is at a high school, it might not be working for various legitimate reasons: don't like the school, can't afford tuition, don't get along with coaches, etc. When a kid is on their 3rd or 4th school in a short time frame, then it's probably not the school that's the problem.

Since we are talking transfers at this point I should point out that Boyle County received a total of 4 transfers this year. Jeremiah Bell from Butler is the one everyone likes to mention but we also received junior Dario Dcastillo from Hawaii. He was a starter on a state championship team last season. We also received sophomore Hunter Jefferies from Lincoln County and incoming freshman Bryce Slone from Danville. Looks like one for each grade. :thumb:

If players that transfer to a school were allowed to play in the regular season, but not in the post season, a lot of these transfers would not matter. That would allow kids to play without the need to transfer for success of the new school.

If nothing else, that would really hurt exposure for kids who are making legitimate moves. I'm doubting coaches want to invest tons of time, energy, and development into a kid who can't help them win at the most important time of the season.

 

 

I wouldn't mind seeing the KHSAA allow an in-state school's entire team to become a de-facto prep team, allow them to play in all regular season events, but not participate in the same postseason as other schools. Unless I'm mistaken, as of right now, KHSAA member schools can't play games against teams who aren't sanctioned by their State's Athletic Association.

 

I'm not talking about a complete public/private split or anything like that. What I am talking about is allowing in-state schools the opportunity to defect and play by their own rules during the regular season, then either have their own playoff or try to get an invite to a large multi-state event like the ESPN Rise.
