Insomnia

Featured Replies

I go in spurts with sleeping. For about two weeks I get 8 hours solid every night. Then for about a month it's a struggle to get half that.

I set three alarms for every 2 minutes for this reason. If I have only one alarm set than I will inevitably, at some point, screw it up. For your example I would have set 8:13, 8:15, and 8:17.

I typically go to bed sometime between 10:30 pm - 1 am and get up around 5:15 am with one good weekly nap for about an hour thrown in.

I position my alarm so I have to get up and basically walk across the room to turn it off.

I do the same thing and even then it is a struggle sometimes

Same here.

But if my alarm clock was within arm's reach, it would be a disaster.

Was diagnosed with sleep onset insomnia when I was 16 years old. I lay down in bed, and my mind races all over the place. I've averaged about 5 hours of sleep since then. I average about 5 hours of sleep a night. If you figure a normal night's sleep is 8 hours, you can measure the amount of sleep I've missed out in years.

My insomnia is hopefully going to be cured after this week. Mr. lawildcat is getting fitted for his cpap machine tomorrow evening which will get rid of his loud, constant snoring.

We are both looking forward to being well rested!

The several people I know that have begun using the CPAP love it!

It's miserable. There's no reading a book or watching a movie. You're too tired for that. You just can't pass out.

Every 2 minutes? I do something similar, but a little more spaced out.

I wish I never discovered the "snooze" button.

My dad and a couple of my brothers are the types that can lay down, or even just lay their head back in a comfy chair and be fast asleep in five minutes. What I would give...

I go in fits and starts. I make it a priority to be in bed by 9. I get up @4:30. But there are days, even weeks on end where I wake up frequently and have trouble going back to sleep. Less often, I have a hard time falling asleep in the first place. I am often awake well before my alarm goes off. I don't do the snooze. Once the alarm goes off, I'm up. I try to stay awake later on Friday and Saturday, but it's really a struggle. I can spend a whole Sunday napping in hour or so blocks.

I've never slept well. Awful trouble falling asleep.

In terms of alarm clocks, I have an app for my phone that has various puzzles and/or math problems that you have to solve to get it to shut off. Problem is that it worked until I found out that you can just turn your phone off and it's like an "off" button. Now I have two alarm clocks on opposite sides of the room and sit a couple on my phone too if it's an important day.

Still doesn't work all the time. Misery.

It seems like I am pretty close to Rockmom's schedule. I try to get to bed between 9:30 -10 PM, and I get up at 4:30 AM. The only way I can get to sleep on time consistently is if I reduce mental stimulation for about 30 mins.....TV off, don't talk on phone, etc. I let the dogs out, check the cat, check the doors, etc. If I think I forgot something...it plagues me.

I envy those that hit the bed and fall asleep and don't wake up.

Mrs. Content1 has the sleep on/off switch mastered and I envy that. Whether on the road as my navigator or in bed. I need a good 5-10 mins of deep breathing exercises to sleep restfully. When I fall asleep watching the boob tube I typically have "lucid" dreams all night indicative of the theme on what is on said TV and I wake up thinking I lived in an alternative dimension all night and didn't sleep. :lol2:

Don't envy too much...that's called dying.
