First of all congratulations to Elliott co. I have said all year that Weddington is the key to this team and tonight in the second half he had a special energy about him.

 

My heart goes out to Matt Thomas. What an incredible young man and an excellent player. If you play sports long enough you will expose yourself to tough situations. FWIW, I would take him anytime with the game on the line. I thought Tyler Reliford made 2 huge plays for Ashland down the stretch. The 3 he hit to tie it up was huge.

 

For those of you who thinks this was a disappointing year for Ashland you are off your rockers. I bet you also thought Ashland would be better off without Brett Miller. I would be willing to bet this game would have been different with Miller in the middle. But this was predictable. When Flynn had Surgalski he was a genius and now with nobody over 6'3" its time for him to leave. Bottom line is that he could coach then and he can coach now. If you can't appreciate how hard his teams play then ...........................

He is a great coach, but only when he has the talent. I meant that I don't think he can win anymore with the situation at Ashland, but if he coached at Scott Co. or Lexington Catholic, he would be very successful. He can't take a young team with raw talent and groom them to win, but with already groomed talent that work into his system, he can win. He's a good coach, but not the right one for Ashland anymore. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Anyone can coach a team that is loaded with talent, just look at wat Tubby Smith did in his 1st season with Pitinos players. The mark of a good coach is how well he can teach the game and how well he can get the most out of his players, no matter what their skill level is. Ashland does have plenty of talent but they did not use all of that talent in order to win this season.

Dang....the wolves are out early!!! What happened to the good ol Tomcat faithful that said "the schedule will pay off..." or "we're better than 14-16..." or what ever it is!! Give the guy a break. He got beat by a better team, although I don't understand why he burned that final timeout...he could'v called spread from the bench and saved that one. But, ultimately, EC outworked Ashland and deserved the win.

This just isn't the type of program Flynn can successfully coach anymore. I'm not sure I follow you. I'm not trying to be arguementitive but what kind of program to you think Ashland will be in the future? and what kind of coach do you think they should hire? Just asking no hidden agenda. I just don't know what more you could expect from your coach.

Ashland played their hearts out, but they just couldn't finish it. Thomas shouldn't worry about those free throws, the game shouldn't have had to come down to free throws.

I think you guys have grossly overestimated the talent level on this team. I'm not trying to say anything bad about any of their players. But the bottom line is that 1 of their starters was retired this time last year. They lacked size and their 7th man is a freshman. They played a muderous schedule and won 14 games. Tonight they lost to a good team on a last second shot.

 

You may not like the style of play but Ashland did not underachieve this year.

Just returned from Morehead and enjoyed most of both games. I can't really believe this junk from Ashland fans either. You win 8 in a row down the stretch and Flynn's a great coach, you lose 2 games by 3 points and off with his head. Give me a break. Dean Smith couldn't have done much better with the team Flynn has this season. Good Grief! Give the guy a break!:creepy:

That really doesn't make any sense to me. "He's a great coach, but only when he has the talent". So you're saying he's not a great coach when he doesn't have "Great Talent". To me you are either a good coach or you're not, there are no buts anywhere. A great coach should be a great coach no matter what he's got. I think a lot of mediocre coaches would turn into great coaches at places like Scott Co. or Lex Cath. To me there are a lot of different characteristics that make up a great coach and one of those characteristics is getting the most out of your players, but I think you either are or you are not a great coach. I think Mike Flynn is a great coach, no if, and, or buts about it. JMO.

Exactly my point, when you hack on the coach like that, all you're doing is slighting the accomplishment of a fine group of kids this year. Overachievers if you ask me, considering the schedule they played. IMO Flynn did a fine job. I just wonder if Leon loses 6 games this year how this site will light up asking for his dismissal. Congratulation to Ashlands seniors for a quality final campaign!

A good coach will build his season around the strengths of his current team, not try to change a player or players to fit the coaches system. He has to show that he has confidence in his players or the players will lack confidence.

Where do these Ashland Fans "get off" on calling for Mike Flynn's head and his resignation. I believe that it was obvious with the talent Ashland had returning, the only three players on this entire team was McDavid, Thomas, and the name Ashland on their front of their jersey!!!! Reliford never was a factor, as per his attitude most of the games, Cannoy never was a floor leader that was counted upon, and Wilcox never found his stride.

Maybe you Ashland fans should look into the mirror and acknowledge, "Maybe it's the talent level of the kids!" Not the coach! Don't try to say, "well when they were freshmen, or in middle school, or pee wee AAU they were this or that. This is High School Basketball!!!! maybe other kids in the area worked harder and had more heart than them, as per Fairview.

After looking at the Tomcats schedule this season, being around the .500 mark is a sign of good coaching with a good team. TP, you are probably right if Flynn had a large talent pool, he would win more. Look at the accomplishments of JEFF HALL as a coach. Wins at Ashland (talent galore), goes to CBA (no talent, leaves job), goes to Rose Hill (talent galore), OJ & co leave (leaves job). Isn't that how coaching goes anyway? Great talent=great coach, Poor talent=poor coach!

I say, stick with a proven winner and finish the race, AKA Bill Cowher with the steelers got an extension from his owner when he had a losing season. Years down the road, he repays the owner with another super bowl title.
