July 30, 201412 yr I don't disagree at all, but...I'm cool with whatever direction they decide to go, just pick one. I'd prefer they sell a couple pieces and try to retool for a 2015-2016 run at it. However, if they want to make a couple moves and go for now, I'm cool with that too. What I am not okay with, is what I fear they'll end up doing, and that's sitting pat. By doing that they're throwing the towel in for this season, and next, and the foreseeable future. I'd rather stand pat than rent Bonifacio for 2 months.
July 30, 201412 yr Author The Reds best option is to dump a starter and a closer for the two Dodgers guys. Trading for Bonifacio or Rios doesn't help this year or next. If that's the best you can do, stand pat. This team can compete next year with the guys they have. No need to panic. No, they really can't. They don't have the offense.

Especially if they are set up to be competitive for the foreseeable future. However, they are none of the above. Not healthy. Not playing well. And not set up well for the future. Paying even a little more to rent someone for 4 months when you are unlikely to get into the playoffs at all is not the way I want them to go. Now, if they can add someone this year and pay a little more while getting rid of a lengthy contract that wasn't a great sign, I say go for it. But with the big salaries they have that doesn't seem likely.

He's hit .246 with a .271 OBP since. He's not someone that you should give up any prospects for. If they want him next season sign him in the offseason. He isn't a difference maker this year.
July 30, 201412 yr I'll miss Lackey. I hated that signing at the time but he was a horse after he came back from surgery. They wouldn't have won the World Series last season without him. I read something earlier this year that the Red Sox had an option to keep him for an extra year because of him missing a year due to surgery. I wonder if the team that he gets traded to would have that option as well? I looked up Lackey and the Red Sox can exercise an option on him for the Major League minimum in 2015. His contract allowed that if he missed significant time between 2010 and 2014. I'm not sure if he is traded if that transfers to the team he is traded to. It said that the Red Sox are asking for a Major League pitcher back for him in order to make the trade. I can understand that because having Lackey for $500,000 next season is a steal.

I would just rather have young interesting prospects pitching instead of Cueto,Latos or Bailey and wouldn't care if they gave up 6 runs a game as long as we had an offensive team that could get you 8 any day of he week.That may not get you into the playoffs(or it may), but sure would be nice to see your 8 starters giving you 15+ homers in hitter friendly GABP. 2-1 games or leading the MLB this year with 1-0 games just don't cut it for me.

If they're going to be sellers, Bonifacio shouldn't even be on the radar. Don't acquire Bonifacio just for the sake of making a move.
