MLB Trade Deadline Rumors and Deals

A quick look tells me the Reds should really be on the phone with the Dodgers asking about the kids Pederson and Seager.... Both top position prospects that look like they can really hit at AA and AAA. Maybe they wouldn't give them both up, but maybe they would... Cueto pitching in the big NL West ballparks could lower his ERA to a silly number... And can you imagine going into the playoffs and looking down a 1/2 of Kershaw/Cueto???:scared:

How about a rotation of Kershaw, Cueto, Grineke, Ryu, and Beckett. They could use all 5 in a playoff series and not miss a beat!

Cardinals have 3 extremely talented OF prospects that are pretty much ML ready. I know, I know, the Reds would never trade with them, but it could be beneficial to both teams. :idunno:

Cardinals apparently just offered the Phillies (3rd team to do so) for Hamels and its the "best" yet.

Bet it included Taveras and a combination of the Kaminsky, Gonzales, and Reyes pitching trio.

Without upgrades to the offense, this team has no hope for 2015 IMO. Those upgrades won't happen unless they trade for some young ML ready talent.

Yep. Seems like the window has closed with this group. Retool and shoot for a few years from now.

I think the Reds go after Matt Holiday, and pay him millions for the next 3 years.

Agree. For what the Phillies are apparently asking for in return I'm not sure how they pull the deal off without including Taveras. And that is why I think Cueto should be made available.

I would put the odds of a Reds/Cards deal at about the same odds of Jay Bruce going 4 for 4 with 2 HR's and 6 RBI tonight...

Yep. Now Hamels would command more than anyone, due to the number of years a team can control him, but a guy like Cueto could return at least 1, probably more, top-tier prospects.

Maybe the Reds are waiting for a domino to fall in the SP market, to gauge what the going rate is, before making guys available? I guess I can hope.

I'm all for the Cards trading as much of their minor league system as possible.

I honestly don't think they are shopping any of them.

Didn't the domino fall when Smardzija was traded? :idunno:

Neither do I.

I keep hearing people say they're hesitant to sell because they don't know how to "sell" it to the fans, but my take is how can they sell doing nothing to the fans? All that means is they have no shot this year, and no shot in the foreseeable future.

I don't think so for a couple reasons. That occurred at the beginning of the month when a lot of teams were still assessing what was going to be out there, and also because while he's very good, I don't feel he's on the same level as the likes of Lester, Hamels, Price, and Cueto.
