July 29, 201412 yr I don't think so for a couple reasons. That occurred at the beginning of the month when a lot of teams were still assessing what was going to be out there, and also because while he's very good, I don't feel he's on the same level as the likes of Lester, Hamels, Price, and Cueto. If he's not that still set the market... The Cubs got a top prospect in return for him.
July 29, 201412 yr I think Simon, Chapman and/or Broxton can bring in significant upgrades. Obviously Cueto / Latos would, too. I don't know much, but I really don't see Simon brining back much to the organization in a deal.

July 29, 201412 yr Author Word is Pirates, Brewers, Cardinals, Marlins, Braves, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Mariners are all in on Lester. If a guy that is 100% a rent a player is getting that much attention, and drawing the type of offers supposedly being made, what would those teams offer for a guy like Cueto who is under control for not just the rest of this year, but next year as well?
July 29, 201412 yr I want the Reds to commit one way or another. I think the obvious one is to sell because it is a sellers market and this team isn't 1 or even 2 players away from putting together a WS run, but if they are buyers then buy. Sitting on their hands again does nothing for the team obviously and I think makes the average fan more upset.

I find it interesting the Sox are listening from the Orioles and Blue Jays. Like you said earlier, everyone wants to jump off a bridge when you mention the Cardinals for Cueto, but if they offer you the best return (Taveras, Grichuck, Gonzalez, Kaminsky, etc.) why not? That's MLB ready talent outside of Kaminsky and he is showing incredible promise.

The reasoning given that the Sox would listen from Baltimore and Toronto is based on discussions they've had with him and his agent, they feel it's almost a zero percent chance he'd resign those places after this season.

I think I like their other OF prospect better than any of them, but yeah, a package of any combination of those guys would be a HUGE return.

Sox could trade him, net a big return, then resign him in the offseason and gear up for 2015.. Are you talking about Piscotty?
July 29, 201412 yr ^Yeah, that's him. Couldn't think of his name before. I think Piscotty will be a solid MLB player. Good defender and bat. Taveras has more upside but when looking at the Reds with guys like Votto, Bruce, Frazier, Meso and Billy a guy like Piscotty would be a really nice fit. The way the Cards have handled Taveras is worrisome IMO so I would agree.
July 29, 201412 yr Author ^Yep. I'd offer them Cueto for Piscotty, Gonzales, and a couple slightly lower-tiered prospects and see what they say.
July 29, 201412 yr Trading with St. Louis is never a good idea. Those guys always get the best end of any trade they make. They must have a secret their not sharing with the rest of us.

I have to agree. That organization knows what it is doing and whatever deal that would be made would favor them big time

I think their evaluation of players they sign on the outside is sometimes average but when they give away a player in recent years they are busts.
