July 31, 201412 yr Doubtful. They aren't the type of market that can afford what he's most likely going to command. Oakland is going all in with him and Samardizja this year' date=' with no realistic chance to resign them. Boston is banking on Lester resigning in the offseason. If they're able to turn 2 months of Lester into Cespedes and bring him back next season? Ridiculous.[/quote'] I put a big 0% chance of Lester resigning with Boston. Doesn't make any sense. They couldn't sign him to the extension he wants so they traded him. His asking price isn't going to drop and why would they sign him in the offseason when they wouldn't during the regular season?

His asking price isn't going to drop and why would they sign him in the offseason when they wouldn't during the regular season? It makes absolute perfect sense. This team isn't going to win this year. Lester can bring back a very nice return if he's traded. He came out a few weeks ago and said he'd be willing to sign in Boston even if he was traded. By moving him, they get a bat in Cespedes to help next year AND can still have Lester for the same price they would've had the just resigned him out right. What about that doesn't make sense?

Certainly sounds like a possibility, but you never know.

What about that doesn't make sense?[/quote'] It doesn't make sense because of course he isn't going to say he wouldn't come back to Boston because that's a PR hit in case he wasn't traded. Red Sox aren't going to give him the money he's wanting or they would've had an extension in place well before now. While it's in the realm of possibility i just don't see it happening.

What makes you think they didn't have the extension pretty well in place? Everything I've read is this was a calculated decision by the Sox to improve their chances in 2015 without losing anything.

Plus, Oakland isn't going to give Lester the type of money he wants.
July 31, 201412 yr Reds have officially made Ludwick available. Unfortunately, he has a mutual option for next year and a $4.5 million buyout. :irked:
July 31, 201412 yr Sounds like the Blue Jays are looking for some pitching. If I'm Walt, I'm on the phone with them to discuss potential deals for Simon.

July 31, 201412 yr Author Best chance they have of moving Ludwick is to move a SP and make the other team take Ludwick on as well.
July 31, 201412 yr What were those stats 10 games ago? What were those numbers 10 days before the all star game? People play this game all the time, but those numbers can change very quickly. I think it is a waste of time to make any decisions based on those stats. Every single season teams blow stats like that up. Yes, the Reds have to be realistic about their chances, but that stat doesn't make the decision for me. 10 days ago and 10 days before the All-Star Game would have given them a lot more time to make up ground. At this point in the season those stats are very relevant.
