Is MLB the Worst American Professional Sport?

Featured Replies

If the Reds played a 16 -inning , 7 hour marathon, I would watch every single pitch to its conclusion. Baseball is such a unique and funny game. If you love baseball, it grabs ahold of you early on and you are hooked for life.

The problem is it's not grabbing enough of the younger crowd.

College Football - Mrs C and I will usually have 3 TVs on watching multiple games. We do a lot of tailgating.

NFL - I will always watch the Browns and Bears. May or may not watch any other games.

College Basketball - Watch a lot of college basketball. Men's and women's.

NASCAR - Will watch at least part, if not all, of every race. Great event to attend. Go to several races a years.

NHL - Watch about 40-50% of the Blackhawks games. Watch the playoffs always.

Soccer - Love the world cup. I also like to watch the European soccer league on TV a couple of times a month.

MLB - Almost never watch on TV outside of the playoffs, and then I only watch if it's a team I like. Go to a couple of Cubs games a year.

NBA - Never watch regular season. Might watch a playoff game or two.

MLB is less popular for the same reason UFC is. Today everyone wants the deck stacked in their favor to capture the action. It's why football is so popular. They know on every play there's a chance someone is getting their bell rung. Baseball takes patience and that is the last thing we have anymore. You can lump soccer right in there with it.

Just my opinion. Very few love 1-0 soccer games or 1-0 baseball games. Hell, or 3-0 football games, for that matter.

The problem is it's not grabbing enough of the younger crowd.

So you're saying I'm old? :jimlad:

You'd be right.

Remember the home run chase a few years ago? It was said these two guys "saved baseball". Magwire and Sosa, two chemically jacked up players. Go figure.

Looks like Pitchers have adjusted to the lower pitch being called, now it's the hitters chance to catch up and start putting the bat on the ball down there.

Or they aren't taking steroids anymore.

NFL, NBA and MLB all suffer because the games are too long and the teams' rosters change so much from year to year. I don't think there is any team sport that can rival the excitement that baseball can provide in the 9th inning when the home team can win, lose or tie on each pitch.
