NCC needs 8th graders

Featured Replies

How much is that down compared to historical average? Are you saying only 2 Frosh came out for the team?

This is about the average over the last couple years.

8 freshman came out.

If the JR. High Football program is any indication, it's going to be a schoolwide issue. Only 18 players spread among 3 grades???

Not bad for a small school, one of the large school teams only had 25.

Talking to an NCC soccer mom yesterday fresh off the bluegrass games. Same thing there. Needed younger kids to play soccer as well. Par for the course. A couple of years ago they only offered 2 teams. Varsity and Frosh I think she said. Not big news, just normal for smaller schools.

Wasn't there a lot of upset people at NCC when they allowed the Sandfoss girl play for NCC when she was an 8th grader?

Lost Kelly, Cain, and a few more I'm told. Kind of makes sense since their fathers help coach in this program. When they get to the "hill", they will be just fine.

Who are Kelly and Cain helping? Last year they were with the Thunder organization.

You mean you were talking to her AT the Bluegrass games. Saw you between the Kettle Corn stand and the porta-potties. You don't have to pretend you hate it anymore. :lol2:

Like others have said; it's not like this hasn't happened in the past. The numbers that surprise me a little are of the junior high football team. Back in 2007 or 2008 I believe it was up to between 40-50 players (Hightchew, Cain's, etc. still playing for the Red Devils at this time.)

RedDevils I believe, that's what I heard.

As far as softball is concerned, NO. The team voted that she play....they were in desperate need of a pitcher.

Some of the eventual NCC kids that are in the 6th grade stay in the Ft Thomas League for another year instead of sitting behind 7th and 8th graders on Jr High team for a year.

NDA only had 16 Frosh come out for volleyball. Heard they had over 60 for soccer. There are more Frosh on JV soccer than Sophomores at NDA.

40 Frosh not 60 for soccer.

Are the catholic schools going under? Whats the total enrollment in the covington diocese now vs say 10-12 years ago? Whats the main issue? Is it money, time for new leadership, or both? This could probably be its own topic.

If the freshman class is over 90 then enrollment is up over my graduating class 15 years ago.

I would probably say total enrollment across the Diocese is down. But you are starting to see more kids not attending the grade schools but still attending the high schools. Cov Cath's enrollment is up around 100 boys over the past ten years and in the early 90s was probably below 400. Now it is around 575. NDA is slightly bigger than they were ten years ago. Saint Henry is around where they were ten years ago and so is Holy Cross. NCC's enrollment is lower than it was ten years ago but its the female enrollment that is down, the boys not so much. Bishop Brossart's enrollment is down but have been hearing it will be on the upswing.
