The Officer of Optimism

I admit I am an optimistic person, which I think this city could use more of and why its such a poor sports town. The past 5 years we have been lucky having playoff teams in both sports. We shouldn't be satisfied with not winning playoff games, but its amazing how much negative stuff it has been still the last 5 years all the time even with playoff teams during seasons. You would think we were back in the 90's and early 2000's with both teams and how truly bad those teams were.

With the Bengals I can back it up more because I look at matchups, and all that when I form my opinion. I haven't really looked to much into this except the fact the Reds have such a good starting staff, that you would think they would have to turn it around.

So I may take a swing and a miss with this Reds prediction since I didn't as much of an evaluation of things like I do with the Bengals lol.

I get what you're saying. I think some of it for me is that i was raised on the 70's and 80's Reds and Bengals. So when you have the experience of multiple world series and a couple of super bowls, the past 5 seasons are just OK.

Who you trying to kid Mal? You'd find things to complain and gripe about even if they made or won the WS or Super Bowl. :lol2: :D

We may never know...

In the Over/Under thread of a few months ago, I guessed 79 wins. I'll stick to that. They go 28-32.

I can buy that. You had the big red machine, and even the Bengals made two super bowls during the 80's. Now with me I was born in 1986 so I was alive for one Bengals Super Bowl game and the 90 World Series win for the Reds. However its not like I had any true like real fan interest and understanding things yet. So I really never experienced those things. What I went through was the Reds last playoff appearance being 1995 until recently, and well the Bengals being the laughing stock in the league for the 90's and early 2000's.

So for me I am not content with just making the playoffs but I am not going to act like the teams are horrible and are last place teams or something like most do when going through a rough stretch. I am happy to have two teams who have been playoff teams and gives us something to hope for, because I don't care what people say its much more exciting watching a playoff team than a last place team. Even though some act like their is no difference. I am definitely not content though with only getting to the playoffs.

Honestly that is why apart of me still wants to see the Reds go for it this year, because I think their window of opportunity is closing a lot quicker than the Bengals. The Bengals have done it by building a very young talented team through the draft and will still be together for a few years. The Reds may be losing some of their pieces soon, specifically in the pitching staff. So I hope they can get something done. I had enough of building for the future through the 90's and early 2000's.

37-23 to finish 88-74

They only have to finish 28-12 to make your prediction come true.

Just saw where the Reds have lost 31 games by one run...:deadhorse:

The Wireman wired it with the 25-35 prediction as the Reds went exactly that over the last 60 games.
